Joan was cleaning her grill the other day and I was getting ready to put it back together today and thought now would be a great time to check the radiator cooling fins. This is what I found :shocked: I was able to take my pin blower and get it cleaned out without damaging the fins. This looked to be grass cutting. Both sides looked like this. My bike wasn't as bad but it needed cleaning too. Ran air and water through both sides being careful not to damage the fins.

poor design I think...Lamont what would you think of putting metal screen behind the grill? might be easier to clean this (only 4 screws) vs the radiator fins

Good to know. I am not necessarily a shop guy, so by pin blower, do you mean the type that you attach to your air compressor hose to blow dust and such away?

This is the second thread on this problem with trash in the F3 radiators. It appears to me to be a less than satisfactory design. JMO.

On the F3s I think the tranverse radiators are a great design

This is the first I've noticed alot of chaff in the radiators on an F3, and probably not very much considering how much Joan and Lamont ride. The RT's however with their front scoops seem to gather quite an accumulation of debris, and the grill screens offered by some of the site vendors do help screen out the big stuff. There is some maintenance as Lamont mentioned in his "heads up" that will accompany any radiator that has air flow through it from your furnace filter at home to your car, truck, tractor and especially Spyder radiators due to their low air scooping nature.

As I see it....

they should make a removable pre-screen that you can remove wash and re-install keeping the radiator fins clean...Like your cloths dryer lint trap...:thumbup:

given that it is in the "Spyder F3 Hotrod/Cruiser" section and more than one thread comments on the F3, it is likely an F3

There have been more than a few who have had to replace the radiators on both the F3 and F3T/Ltd for this reason. I checked mine before we left for TX and with 7,500 miles they were still pretty clean but I will be checking them after every trip
