There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. L.A. to Vegas - is there a fun way to go?

I'm looking to see if anybody has tried and enjoyed an alternate route from Los Angeles to Las Vegas (besides the 15). It's certainly fun to start by going over the 2, but that's familiar territory for me.

Has anybody tried the 40 or the 66, or perhaps another route, and found more than desert and straight highway?

I'd like to keep the trip under 375 miles.

How can you pass up enjoying historic RT66?:dontknow::lecturef_smilie::shocked:

Just a thought (from nowhere near you)

Fun trip

For many years I went on the Barstow to Vegas motorcycle run,
what a blast it always was we went through the desert on dirt bikes...
they also had a road run there as well.
But the good old EPA decided we were distrubing the lizards rats and turtles
what a bunch of BS that was.... so it came to an end.........

I wish I could remember the road, but when we got married and drove across country, there was a town in the middle of absolute nowhere that's almost like a nomadic community on the drive from LA to Vegas. That was bizarre and was fascinating to visit. I'll see if I can find anything about it using Google.

I don't think this is the town, but I found the following, which is a restored wild west hotel:

You can go through Amboy to Goffs to 95

Last time I was in Vegas, we met at the Henderson dealership. My Spyder had broken down, and I bought a new one to take home with me. I'd been looking at the route you suggest but have no idea what to expect - what else can you tell me about it?

Ann is correct. Basically head toward Laughlin. There are very few roads across the Mojave. And make sure you are prepared when you take them. Water, protein bars in case you break down again and a little shade. That shade sold by Spydersisters.com works good. Down leave home without telling someone your intended route and ETA.

My son is a truck driver and he sends us his location via glympse.com which works really good. It does use power however so make sure you have a charging cord. You may get in dark areas where cell service may be spotty, depending on what service you use. But your text will work even if you are out of range. Have fun!

there are no other GOOD ways to get to vegas. I always go down pearblossom and stop at charlie browns for one of the 100 shake flavors and maybe some jerky and water to take with me. Then on into Victorville via the 38 or 138 i forget off the top of my head. Then its onto the 15 for the boring straight shot there.

The BEST way to get from The "City of Angels", to "Sin City"??

That's easy: asleep, and in the back of a Limo!!
Otherwise; ANY road on your Spyder isn't a bad choice!

If you can make your way up to the Barstow area by whichever route, hopefully Rt 66, then you can take I 40 across to the turn off towards Goffs. Follow that to Hwy 95 and up through Searchlight and on to Vegas. A little less freeway but it's still a desert out there.

Nother choice

Go up 395 then through Death Valley to Las Vegas. Not a lot of options road wise, so choosing which way suits you best should be easy enough.

Thank you for everybody's help. We opted to add about 85 miles to our ride and take a section of Route 66, and found it a worthwhile diversion.

To add a story to the trip, we haven't been to Vegas since I exchanged Spyders in Henderson two years ago. For the first time in 28K miles, as we were within a few miles of the dealership, the Spyder threw a code and hit limp mode (the gas was lean). Resetting the Spyder fixed the issue, and it didn't reoccur for the rest of the trip, and the 265 mile ride home. Was it missing friends in Henderson? The timing was eerie, but in the end of no apparent consequence.
