• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

KewlMetal Mirror Extensions

Installed my KewlMetal mirror extensions last night. It was a relative snap. You do, however, have to really torque down on the screw to prevent unwanted mirror movement from wind force, vibration, etc. (tighten it until it smokes then back off 1/4 turn). There is some mirror vibration which is kind-of expected with that (total) arm length. A weight of some kind (I'm thinking lead), affixed to the outboard end of the arm, would likely absorbe the vibration and solve that problem. It's just a matter of some head scratching to figure out how to add the weight in such a manner as to make it look like a supposed-to-be.

The only thing I wasn't happy with was the inability to reaffix the nice little rubber Can-Am screw hole covers. KewlMetal didn't think to incorporate a groove (or bump) to accommodate that action. You'll know what I mean when you install yours. It deserves some (more) head scratching to find a way to make that happen. Those little rubber covers are a nice touch.

Bottom line ... best $100+ I've spent on any one an accessory thus far. The extensions look like they grew there.

File the little tabs off, as well as maybe 1/32" of the end of the cover. Then, use RTV to "glue" them in. Works well... and RTV is easily defeated IF you want them to come off.

.

Yea, thanks. I was seriously considering something similar. I wonder if I could run a bead of black or transparent silicone such that when it dries, I could then tuck the little tab behind it (like it was in the original configuration prior to the extension installation. Alternately, I was considering drilling and tapping a small hole at that location and screwing in a really small black machine screw. Then tuck the tab behind that screw head. So many ideas, so little time to jot 'em down.

agreed

The mirror extensions are the best mod I've seen so far...

I didn't screw them in so hard that they'd be unable to move...I'd rather they move a bit if someone knocks into them (however odd that might be)...if you have to tug pretty hard to get them to move, they're not gonna move in the wind or with vibration...

I've had no problems with them so far and they're working like a charm!

Not sure how you all tightened them down that much. I seemed to hit the endpoint as I torqued them and they still move if you push them.

Called KewlMetal and he admitted he forgot to machine the groove. He said his Spyder lost the rubber covers before he got home. lol

A bit of glue on them seems to hold them unless someone comes along and moves my mirrors forward.

Nice addon but a bit rough around the edges still.

Not having extensions this old motorcycle mirror trick could help.Put a small O-ring between your pieces. This will cure vibration and still make them adjustable.

hope this helps,
terry

Update

Just an update. I took a long ride yesterday and the mirror extensions actually vibrate much less. I am not sure if that's because everything is just tighter after the install because I tightened it or the longer arm absorbs more vibration.

But I am very happy about this added benefit besides not looking at my elbows. With my coming F1 windscreen it should be pretty amazing.

Also, installed my ICOM bluetooth with the earphone addon. No one could even tell I was on my bike when I made a call and was going 70. Music sounded great and was stereo. I will be interested to see how Cardo tops this with their new system. :2thumbs:

:agree: I just had my Kewlmetal mirror extenders put on yesterday also. I too see more then my elbows. Big plus on this mod
