There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Do a search but suffice it to say many (including myself) do NOT recommend them. No performance benefit that you could tell and significant loss of filtration efficacy. Enough that they have destroyed engines.

There was just a very heated thread about K&N air filters a few days ago. That's what I meant. No offense intended :D

I have no opinion about them one way or another. I just watch and learn.

I also run one on my spyder and have run on other stuff with no issues

Opinions Opinions are like !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same old back and forth. One thing is for sure, this conversation will never change.

There are many who have had great service from K&N air filters over the span of many years in all kinds of environments. There are those who say they destroy engines. A pretty big spread of opinion. I'm sure it causes a number of people to pass them up. I've used them all my life in on and off road vehicles. I've destroyed a few engines along the way. But it had nothing to do with the K&N air filter. All of which have performed flawlessly for me.

Oh, and by the way. There is a Sponsor here that sells this filter for $46.95 delivered. Not much of a difference. But a buck is a buck. You could get a filter and a McDonald's value meal too!

No big deal! I just put the wife and kids on rations and in a few days I'll be able to make up the difference! :roflblack: I use Summit too! Good people.

I have a K&N air filter on my 2012 RT. After an oil change I did oil analysis on new and old oil. The silicon(dirt) went from 3 parts per million for new oil to 6 ppm for oil with 4,593 miles on it. Looks like not much dirt is getting through. My conclusion the K&N works fine.

There are a lot of owners here using them. I've gotten several good reports from customers. Hopefully, a few will chime in. I've been using one on my 08 almost from the beginning. My original paper got soaked with oil from the famous crankcase vent issue. I've checked several times (white paper towel on the intake side of the air box). Always looks good. But it's not the model you're asking about so I can't help there.

K & N filter

They are are so pretty, but not any better performance than other filters. The only improvement in power on a dyno was to completlely gut all the filter element except for the aluminum outer frame & that improvement wasnt's worth the gain including using a big forced air input fan. the aluminum frame was only needed to mount the above hardware & protect birds from flying into the intake :-) Stock air filters are all you need unless you're status oriented... If somone wanted to measure nano micro filtering---that would be silly & not provide any benefit to long term engine use.
Just my 2c worth from my persoanl experience--I've been wrong before :-)

I have personally witnessed the oiled gauze elements destroy several 7.3L Navistar diesel engines within 10k miles. Warranty claims denied for engines 'dusted' due to lack of filtration. You could easily see where the turbine blades were warn away from the sand blasting. If you are really interested in this, the easiest place I can point you for information that it DOES happen is the powerstroke.org. The pictures are graphic.

Make your own decision. I have. There is NO benefit to doing this and lots of possible down side.

I've got 173K on my 2001 Power Stroke F-250. Bought it used. It had a K&N air filter when I got it. And it still does. I can't say how long it has been on there but it certainly didn't look new when I got the truck.

Just another aspect of the discussion.

I have a 2003 gmc envoy with 325,000 miles on it. Had has aK&N from 14,000 miles. 1997 GMC jimmy with 385, 000 miles and K&N since day 1. 2003 lexus with 230,000 and K&N since 42,000. I also have 2 yamaha venture royals, 1989, 1991, both with K&N filters with no problems. So, if there is a problem with them letting in dust, I have personally seen no sign of it. All of mine are still running great and working good.
