There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. K&N Air Filter Question

I had my OEM paper filter changed this summer, around 28K I think, and it was still real clean and could have gone for another 10K or more. I know K&N's are more porous and therefore go for much longer time than a paper filters, so I'd guess at least 30-40K, maybe more, unless you live in extremely dusty climate.

:) My dealer checked mine at 15500...clean as new:2thumbs:. Says he has only changed 1 OEM in years and that was only because the owner 'upgraded'. Mechanic says why spend the extra :yikes:$$$$???? Great question! But it is a personal choice and I may be doing next year for piece of mind:yes:.

A K&N was one of the first installs I did on my Spyder. From personal experience using them in my four wheeled vehicles, I cleaned my filters every 50K miles as recommended by K&N using their kit.
So far, I have put over 15K miles on my Spyder since I've owned it.

Depends..!

K&N has at at 50,000 because it improves the air flow and has oil based trapping capabilities this will be an accurate calculation. On the other hand if you run in areas that are very sandy dusty etc you may have to clean it once before you buy a new spyder...:roflblack:

Thx guys, I've got 13K but only 10K on filter..I'm doing an oil change this week and was thinking about cleaning the air filter AND while I was going that far I was going to change wires and plugs (bought Ron's). Since it's running good I'm just going to leave well enough alone and just do the oil for now.

K&N type filters actually work better when they have some 'Dirt' captured. The foreign matter absorbs some of the oil and gives additional surface area to catch new, incoming particles. I've been told this does not compromise air flow until the filter becomes very dirty.

K & N AIR FILTER

A friend of mine ( this is on a Gold Wing but it doesn't matter ) looked at his at 150,000 + miles and didn't clean it .......go figure ,.........Mike

Just an FYI if you have the ram air intake on your spyder it will "ram" insects into your K&N... I clean mine at each oil change. This is even so after I fabricated a screen over the ram air opening. still get lots of small insects rammed into filter and air flow is reduced.

This winter we plan to remove the stock airbox and go with a new intake and a blower to pull cool air in while stopped and idling, after that the K&N will be only a memory.

I bought a K&N air filter for my 2011 RT-SM for $30.00 through amazon.com and free shipping and it says clean after 50000 mi

I cleaned the one in my Jeep, used a K&N cleaning kit. That was at 48,000 miles, when I clean it I used a white pan and there was a good amount of dirt and bugs in the pan. The one in my work car I cleaned after 55,000 miles and it had less dirt. The one in my 2011 RS-S I will clean about every 25,000 miles or three years of use. If I drive where the roads have a lot of dirt on them I would check it at every oil change. That's IMHO.
