Survey of sorts. Who has read the Operator's Guide?

1. Read all of it.
2. Read how to start it and never read the rest.
3. Read only when I have a problem.
4. Use this forum instead.
5. What Operator's Guide?

Since I had to wait almost three months last year for mine, I read the OG on line and knew more about the Spyder than the dealer rep who did the delivery check list.

Since I had to wait almost three months last year for mine, I read the OG on line and knew more about the Spyder than the dealer rep who did the delivery check list.

I read the owners manual for the SM5 about 10 times while waiting on my SE5. Only read the SE5's manual to see what service differences there were if any.

1 & 4. But I always refer to it before making a final decision on a question I may have. I don't always follow the manual's directive, but I refer to it before my decision. In the 4, I have gotten a lot of valuable information from this forum, so for me the "instead" is not entirely correct.

Same here. Being I had a 7 month wait from the time I put my deposit down until I got my Spyder, I had plenty of time to read the Owner's Manual, the version posted here on the homepage. I still refer to threads / info on SpyderLovers more than the manual when I'm looking for Spyder info.

Me too!! Manual is helpful but great discussion and advise here.

Read over the parts about break in, maintainence, operation, etc. Decided that I would find out myself "what Makes the Spyder different"

For the most part I use it as a guide and reference tool, but look to this forum for better explainations and ideas. Nothing beats the years of experience of working on bikes that some of these members have. I figure that manual was written when the Spyder was first released. Info from those who have ridden and worked on them recently is more current. And of course, the manual can't help with mods.

1 & 4. This is a great resource and I use it more than the written word from BRP. I refer to the Operators Guide for things like Tire Pressure, fuel capacity and oil specs. OTher than that, I check if I think there is something "off" that I need to check into.
