Just curious-why did you buy a Spyder?

I liked the looks of the Spyder when it first hit the net. I went for a demo ride in 1/08 at a motorcycle show, but wasn't sure so waited until another demo ride in August. It was longer and I finally got the hang of turning with it, as I had ridden two -wheelers for 40 years now. Traded my Kawasaki Mean Streak in for it in Sept. My wife hated two wheelers and almost divorced me when I got the mean streak four years ago. Now she goes on rides with me and is into it. I have enjoyed riding the Spyder much more than any bike I have had.

Interesting. My wife Gail loved riding as a passenger on my two-wheelers, but so far has not warmed up to the Spyder. She finds it much less relaxing, as the G-forces throw her around in the curves, and she says she finds the seating position much less comfortable than on my Kawasaki Concours, or my BMW R100RS before that. She finds the passenger seat too wide, forcing her to move her legs too far apart, which she finds very tiring on a long ride, causing muscle cramping she never felt on any of my conventional motorcycles before this.
Next time we are at a Spyder get-together, I may have Gail try sitting on a Corbin or Day-Long saddle to see if this is better for her. I find the stock saddle just fine, but she does not. :dontknow:

After years of riding sportbikes, I wanted a safer, more comfortable bike that was passenger friendly. Plus, this thing mesmerized me. I love to obsess on new toys and this really did it for me. I rented one about six months before I bought one and was a bit disappointed with the performance compared to my other bikes but, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I kept dreaming of long twistie road adventures. My dreams came true and I get juuuust enough performance to keep me smiling:clap:Like many others, my other bikes get little attention now.

Riding on the spdyer is so much fun. Been riding 2 wheels since I was 16 but I've never enjoyed anything else as much as the spyder. More relaxing, enjoyable and safe. :2thumbs:

Wife chose the ryde

Went looking for a 2 wheeler and as I was looking around the showroom at the the VTX the salesman took my better half over to the :spyder: and gave her the info. When I told her I found the bike I wanted she told me she had found the ryde I was getting - the rest is history. I guess i should thank the salesman and my wife for the greatest ryde of my life.

I took the Harley Rider's Edge Course to see if I really wanted a bike. Just made the obsession worse. While looking for my first bike my neice told me about the Spyder she saw in Gulf Shores AL. Got on the web and found out they were demo riding at a local SRS Motorsports. Went, rode it...couldn't stop grinning, remembered I dropped the Buell twice during the Rider's Edge Course and that I am 53 years old...uh um, young. So now I just sit and dream and wait for that money tree to come up in my backyard. Hey, ya'll make me feel like I'm riding everyday!

My sport tourer was getting long in the tooth and my wife's hip was going bad. Once we found that she could get on and off the Spyder and ride with no pain, it was a done deal. The hip has been replaced now and I think we will be riding 2 wheels again but we are both sold on the Spyder as our traveling rig.

I had been itching for a Harley for years and was about to make the purchase for my 30th birthday when a friend of mine sent me an email saying he got a job at BRP. He said: "Look what I have to work with" and that's when I thought this is it. The fiancee was not thrilled about me getting a motorcycle, but she was absolutely fine with the spyder.

Searched online like crazy, joined this wonderful forum, went to two separate dealership, test drove the spyder three times and bought one.

Just waiting for nice weather to finally put some serious miles on that thing.

Am new to riding, fiance has been a rider for 30+ years. Rode on the back of his bike and it was fun. Wanted to ride more but knew I would not do a 2 wheel. Saw the spyder and Eureka! I could do that and did! I love the spyder! Feel like a new woman.

My reason

After 40 years on 2 wheels a young punk missed a turn on his brand new 1198 and crashed into me on my Commando coming the opposite way. After 4 surgeries I am left with a limping leg and no radial nerve in my right arm. I am not able to ride heavy bikes anymore (or any of my vintage drum bikes) and my wife pushed me to buy a RT to be able to ride together and go on vacations like we've been doing for ages. She love being a passenger on long ride but ride her own bikes on vintage day rides. I am missing dirt riding and will be buying soon an Ural to go back on fire roads and trails...

I had two Valkyrie's in my shop. So I sold one the buy the 08 SE5 for my wife. I figured she would enjoy riding her own and she had no interest in 2 wheels. I have fun on it also. So now I have a riding partner. So far she is loving it and she is getting better everyday.

I have owned over 30 motorcycles since 1965. Everything from 90cc to Vulcan 2000 cc.
The last Vulcan 2000 was way to heavy for me to lift off the kickstand and hold up safely when at a stop sign. Running down the road--it was light as a feather though.

When I saw an article in a cycle magazine about the new spyder in about November 2007, I said I got to have one of these. I put a deposit down in December 2007 and had my first Spyder in June of 2008. I got the 2nd one to hit Alaska. I have had a total of 3 :spyder2:'s now. 2008, 2009, and 2010 RTS--the first year for that model.

I like the three wheels, and all the comforts that the RTS offers. I did go back and buy a carryover 2009 Vulcan 900 LT last year though. With an aftermarket custom seat--that bike fits me like a glove and I can still ride 2 wheels when I get the urge. I put 5000 on the Vulcan and 8000 on the RTS this season. March-Oct.

Lamont told me I had to.... :dontknow:

I had never taken his advise before but for some reason.... I decided to this one time. Glad I did! :ohyea:

Spyder Reason

Back when I was much younger, I had too many innear ear infections, and it destroyed my equillibrium. I can't even balance on a 10 speed bike. When we got the HD Tri-Glide in 2009, I really did enjoy riding with my husband. As time moved on, however, I began to want something more. I wanted to be in the driver's seat. After talking with a friend who has a 2008 RS, I decided to visit the Can-Am dealer who fortunately is close by to my house. What can I say???:dontknow: I sat on the RT-A, and when hubby saw the expression on my face, and the rest is history! It was indeed love at first sight! The SE-5 semi automatic transmission was a bonus!

5' tall rode 2 wheels for years, Honda, Yamahas, Harleys and had kind of lost the enthusiasm. Always had to worry about gravel, how and where I parked to ensure I could get out and get the bike back up off the sidestand, my husband was my reverse by pushing me. Had a serious wreck in 2006 but still rode again and then the Spyders came out and my husband talked me into just trying one. I had tested trikes and wasn't ready for 3 wheels, had seen Lamonte at Bike Week on this funny looking thing and quite a while later finally rode one in the dead of winter and that was it. I thought it was fun and different and now I am having a ball riding again.

My wife saw one in a show called CSI Miami. She talked me into going to look at one at the dealer in Henderson, Nevada. I did tell her we were looking and not buying just yet. We walked into the showroom, she touched the handlebars, got stuck and couldnt unstick till the sold sign was put on. She made me buy her the SM5. Then when we got it home she wouldnt let me ride it. So I found a used SE5 with 400 miles on it and bought me one. She says it is a chick bike because Of the auto. I say I dont have to remember to downshift. One more thing my old mind doesnt have to worry about. We have Honda 1300s also so when the need arises, we go that way.

Why a spyder

Doesn't fall over at the light!!! Has REVERSE!!! tried a trike liked to put the thing in the ditch as I didn't have enough muscle to get it around a corner. Too close!!! Spyder a LOT safer!!!

I had to give up two wheels at age 27 and the reasons bad ankle, both knees and a problem in my left ear effecting my balance. Walking is a problem and I should be using a cane but am to young for one of those, even though I have several.

I couldn't get into a sidecar and just gave up the thought of ever ryding again. Than 32 years later while checking out trikes a friend told me about the Spyder and I had been checking those out online for about 6 months.

One Saturday afternoon, I went to Pets Mart to get some dog food and knew the dealer was around the corner. With my history, I just can't go and look but decided I would take a chance and went to look only. The next thing I knew, I had done it again and signed the papers. I have no regrets in what happened that day in March 2009 and its the best move I made and now have to find time to get out on the boat, which I also love.

I made a few more trips to Pets Mart and even sat on a 2010 RT. The sales lady knew I was an easy sell but got off the RT and back on to my 2008 GS/RS. I like many have been through a lot with the GS/RS and now that its running great, I have no intention in giving it up and still enjoy it as much as I did the first time I first rode it. Its my main ryde now, even though I have a truck and living here I can ryde year round and I do, except when the weather is nasty. When its in the 90s with humidity in the 80s and it rains, it feels great.

Last year I was coming out of Winn-Dixie and next to my Spyder was a Royal Enfield with a sidecar. Looking at it closely I thought how cool is this? Funny how 34 years ago, I couldn't get into them and now I would love to have one. But, I'm happy with the Spyder and the hardest part of any night is hitting the kill switch and putting it away for the night.

it was an easy decision

honestly, after jumping out of planes for almost 30 yrs, crawling in jungles all over the world, and playing in the worlds biggest sandbox, my knees, hips and back were in bad shape. I have rode for 50 yrs on 2 wheels. Didn't want to give up riding....bought it, and have never looked back. Retired now and I am loving it. Miss my guys, but this is the best thing to happen to me.:2thumbs:
