Juice Box setting for Hindle

Capt John

New member
Just installed the JB today. I didn't have time to ryde. I was almost late for work. Would anybody chime in here and give me their opinion on settings? I have the Hindle and green filter. I asked this on chat last night and I think BajaRon told me he didn't think Lamonts settings are correct for what I'm running. I've been getting low speed sputtering whether cold or hot and surging In the 3800 -4200 RPM range. Please get me to a good starting point and I'll adjust from there. Thanks in advance.

Sputtering is too rich and surging is too lean.

I have the same setup as you now and I'll let you know if I had to make any changes. I did back setting number 2 from 6 to 3 already. You may need to do the same.

Thanks Lamont,
The sputtering and surging is what it was doing before the install. I might not have made myself clear on that point. I'll get a chance to ryde in the morning after work and try things out....Looking forward for more of your observations.

The settings that I have been running are the settings that originally came from NMN and then used by Lamont. That is what I run now and my Spyder is set up like yours (Hindle, JB, Green filter). I have been very pleased with the way mine runs with those settings. Before the JB I had low speed surging and the JB seemed to eliminate that. The general performance throughout the power band seems smooth and pulls strong (noticeably better with the JB). I have not changed the settings from the NMN settings simply because it runs so well. I have detected no surging or sputtering with the JB at my current settings.:doorag:

Why did you change from 6 to 3 on no.2. Was this change done before or after the Hindle? Mine seems to be doing well with your original settings, at least it seems that way to me.:doorag:

Mine was running a little rich at that setting. I changed it before putting on the Hindel.

This is a great thread...

I have the green filter and the hindle as well.

I have set modes 5 and 6 to 2.0 from the .5 setting that Lamont has...

I have some light popping/backfire with deceleration and coasting in gear 3 and 4...when I come off the throttle...something is too rich...didn't have this before the JB.

Besides that, the performance increase is absolutely amazing...I am also getting slightly better mileage.

With really crisp accelerations on my 135 mile ride on Sunday I still got 31.9mpg...this is a definite improvement as I was riding really, really hard...

I'm going to set my mode 3 (red) back a little to 3 or 3.5. Two Bros recommends 1 (one) for this setting...I have it at 4 and when I pound the throttle and let go and coast, this is sometimes where I get an initial backfire...so, I'll drop the richness of full throttle down a bit. In addition, I'll likely take modes 5 and 6 to number 3 to see if this changes anything. As far as mode 4 goes (cruise), I might have to fiddle with this a bit too...this might be a bit too rich...can't figure out where the popping really is...either it's as I decelerate and cruise or when I first touch the throttle again...

I'll probably do these changes one at a time...

Mine will do a little popping (mild) when after running 5-6 K rpm's for a while and then backing off the throttle; The popping will occur when I apply a little throttle as the rpm's come down. Don't you think that is pretty normal for a performance exhaust? Most motorcycles I have owned will do this with modified exhaust systems. (especially V-twins):f_spider:

This is a good point. Scotty thinks a mild pop is not a problem, but a loud backfire is bad...

It sounds like I have the same issue as you...I think maybe the cruise setting (mode 4) might be a little rich and this might increase the popping a bit. As far as the hindle alone being a factor in this, I did have an occasional (and I mean occasional) pop in 4th gear sometimes before I got the JB...now, though, I'm getting the pops a lot more...luckily, we can modify the JB and likely take care of this.

It's gonna be fun playing with the JB to get the best settings. I never really realized just how much the JB affects the performance...my thanks to Evan and Lamont for the recommendation...

Now to get it right...as I posted above, I'm going to gradually change settings bit by bit until the popping deceases...I'd rather have a small pop than hesitation due to lack of fuel...we should continue to compare notes on the JB until we have a small database for everyone based on what performance components they have...nothing too formal...

I added in the order of hindle, green filter, and then JB...each one has helped increase performance and believe it or not, have helped mileage a bit too...the JB obviously seems to make the biggest difference...

My mechanical ability is nil! My brother in law visiting from California installed the NMN juice box and green filter when he was visiting. I have a Bruce Fabricators exhaust. I am getting a slight hesitation when I accelerate, but when I get to a higher speed, it runs excellent. I took down Lamonster's settings and went out to set mine the same way. One problem when I looked, I see a plus, minus, mode. How do you set it up to the numbers. Instructions lost somewhere.:dontknow:

Mode 1...green...no effect
Mode 2...yellow...acceleration
Mode 3..red...full throttle
Mode 4...Green/blue...cruise
Mode 5...yellow/blue...speed of mode 2
Mode 6...red/blue..speed of mode 3

Bottom line...cannot change unless bike engine is on...once on, you can toggle the 'mode' button until you get to the setting you want...from there, use the plus and minus to dial in what you want...there are '.5's as well...if the light is blinking between 2 and 3, you have 2.5.

It's pretty straight forward once you play with it a bit...

I went we these settings this morning. I only got in a 30 min ryde this morning. These are my initial observations.
1. OMG! Better take off power!
2. No low speed sputtering!
3. No backfiring!
4. No surging in the 3800 -4200 RPM range  (side note I thought I felt a surge in 4th was running 3800, in 5th @ 4000 RPM no surging whatsoever)

May need to tweak it a little more, but I was grininng ear to ear on my ryde this morning. I hated to go to bed but I had to be back at work tonight for another 12 hr shift. Tomorrow is my swap over day. I'm going to put it through the paces.

Lamont have you done any tweaking to the JB since changing to the Hindle? Also after the update for the safety recall?I see where you changed the acceleration setting to 3 from 6 [mode 2]

I've done a little tweaking on it but not done yet. It runs pretty good but I seem to be running about 10 to 15 degrees hotter than with my other pipes. :dontknow:

I ran these but they were too rich for me...getting too much popping so had to drop a few back a little...still in process...

Keep me informed. I have not yet got to put anymore time in ryding. The rain has been terrible here since last Friday.

I haven't been out too much either...busy with work...

Each time I go out, I'll tweak a setting or two and see what it changes...I know with modes 5 and 6 on 2.0 and mode 2 on 3.0 and mode 3 on 4.0, I got 31.9 mpg...however, I did get some backfiring/popping...maybe mode 4 on 6 is too much? Performance was outa hand...huge change...love the JB..

I'll keep track and let you know...
