• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

just got offered a job in Jacksonville Fl. never been there. anyone here know anything about the area. I know it is a Navy town. cost of living? tks,

Gotta say...

Google is the way to go. You can get all that and so much more if your looking to move there. Was there a couple of times and it is like all other cities to the passers-by. They claim to be the largest city in america, areawise, but from what I saw it was nice. But for cost of living, crime rates, schools etc Google it...

Well, the cost of living depends where you live. Jacksonville is incorporated, and includes all of Duval County. Traffic is terrible, because of people living in the Jacksonville area, and living out in the suburbs. Some people like it, I moved to the country after living in Jacksonville for 12 years, and was happy until more and more moved out of town and the country started getting crowded. Now they are building a new internet around the out side of the one they have now, to move more people out to the neighboring counties instead of through the city part of Jacksonville. There is also a north and south interstate that runs thru the area. If there is an accident, the interstates usually get shut down for a while.

But, the cost of living is reasonable, due to some of the same reasons I stated above, they are building many new and high priced subdivisions that come with restrictions as to how you can live and conduct yourself. You can not park in your driveway, or leave your garage door open for extended periods of time. You can't park a boat in you yard or have a TV antenna on your roof. You can't leave your garden hose streatched out across your lawn unless you are watering your grass, and you can only do that twice a week. It really isn't as bad as it sounds, there are many farming communities close in, and the homes are more reasonably priced, with less restrictions. Jacksonville was, not to long age, a small town that wanted to be bigger, and it is still working on it. They have a pro football team, they are trying to get stores and such to move back into downtown after running them out of town to the malls.

The people are pretty nice, and weather is usually great, I ride all year around. I'm kind of outdoorsy and guess that is the main reason I'm still here. If I could afford it, I would move down to the middle of the state where the weather is even better year round, and there is much more to do since all of the theme parks are down that way, and the fishing is better.

Google Jacksonville and the surrounding area, you will probably get more and better information, mine is a bit tainted as they are moving the city out to me. The new interstate will be within three miles of my 2 acres, and the area is already growing. Good luck, do you know where you will be working, what area I mean? I might be able to give you a little better info that way. PM me and I'll give you my e-mail address.

Is there anywhere in Florida that doesn't have alligators

I am going to be moving next year and Florida is one state on my list

Moved from Wisconsin to Jacksonville years ago for my employer, basically did not know anyone except people from work. Got to
meet many new people and made many friends. Traffic is a horror story, but they are working on it but the city just keeps growing.
I have since moved on and retired but enjoyed the area. Great scuba diving, many lakes and other outdoor activities in the area.
Depending on what area you are going to work should determine where you want to live. Go and enjoy. Bob

Unfortunately Gators are everywhere. they even show up in swimming pools surrounded by chain link fence, drainage ditches, interstate highways. Fortunately, they taste good.

Would be happy to help if you have specific questions send me a PM. I have a Facebook group and LinkedIn page for local business people which would also be a good resource for asking questions. Both are called Mandarin Area Professionals. I moved to Jax at the end of 2011 from Tampa after 27 years (which I miss). Lots of great places to ryde and we have several good ryding groups. I live in the Mandarin area of town which gives good access and options for getting in and out of the area when traffic goes to hell (which it seems prone to do in this town). As for the people generally nice but if I was going to describe the culture it seems to be more South Georgia than Florida, though i may be a little biased. It is a "good ole boy" town when it comes to doing business though that seems to be changing a bit as people move into the area.
