Jacking up the spyder

I have a 2014 RT and would like to use my motorcycle floor jack to raise it high to install a bajaron sway bar. I need t o raise it 20-22 inches. My question is looking under the spyder, it doesn't look like a nice flat surface to place the jack. Has anyone tried this before? I have car ramps but they won't lift it high enough. I'd appreciate any ideas.

I used car ramps and centered the jack just behind the swaybar and got it up on jack stands on the front A-Arms. I left the ramps in place and reversed the process after install. I did not get the jack centered on the lowering cycle and the bike tilted but with the car ramps in place it did not tilt over I just lowered it down till the other side touched. Hope that helps. I have a 13 but the frame is the same.

May not be approved but it works.

I use a car service jack with a 1" by 6" by 12" piece of wood between the jack and the frame and raise it from the front. This may be slightly " shade tree " but I spent over $200.00 on a " motorcycle " jack that has no use whatsoever with a Spyder.:gaah:

I used some scaffold planks and made a ramp and then put jack stands under the planks to stabilize.
you could buy a couple of 2X12 from the lumber store you just need something sturdy to to prop one end up for the ramp I used some heavy duty cabinets in my shop and clamped the planks to the counter top this worked really good and rock solid.
I built the cabinets with a solid 1-1/2" top so I knew they would take the load.

Tire ramps is all I use. Can easily get under the RS and do whatever it is I need to do so far. No need to block it.

Let's see..!!

ATV/motorcycle lift works to get you up and some A stands to support the work. Many ways...the last ingenious way was running the front wheels up two motorcycle ramps on a pickup and blocking the rear tire...

Safe

I do a lot of these. I use a craftsman motorcycle jack. Slide in from the front, until you can lift the frame cross pieces. Raise enough to set jack stands. Then add the jack risers, raise again to get the required height. Then set jack stands. If yours are low, use a combination of ramps and lumber. Be safe! Once it is solid, I make Ann shake the bike. So long as it is secure, I proceed. Never risk your life for a mod! JMHO, Joe

Used car ramps and ATV Jack - pics for you

Hi,

Yes, you need to get it that high (20-22 inches from floor to frame) ONLY WHEN YOU EXCHANGE THE OEM BAR FOR THE BAJARON BAR. Otherwise, all work can be done while just sitting on the car ramps. Actually, I have to put my RT on the low ramps in order to have clearance so I can place the ATV jack under the bike!

I completed all work on the ramps, used blocking on the ramps to insure it was safe. Also, had the ATV jack on it as well to raise it up to the height needed to slip out the old bar and replace it with the BajaRon bar. Then back down at a safer level on the ramps.

Here's some pics - good luck with your install! Stay safe when lifting the RT! :2thumbs:

That is how I did it. Twice now. My 2014 RT and a friends 2014 RT. Only had the bike up the ramps long enough to pull out the old sway bar and slide in the new one.

unbelievable suggestions

I am so grateful for this forum and the many great suggestions you guys have offered. I think the 2x12's against a truck tailgate with jackstands for supports will be easiest for me, but every suggestion was great. Thanks to all of you.

I have a motorcycle jack like yours but I don't feel comfortable lifting my RT using the wimpy plastic skid plate. I prefer to pick it up using the metal frame just behind it. IMHO.

Dealing with the RS sway is a lot easier and different than 2013-14 RT's they need to go waaaay up.
