• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

J&M Rear speaker change

Remove rear seat back. Three screws from inside trunk. Loosen two small top screws.

Remove rear shroud. Eight screws. Open side storage doors, two screws on each side, four screws near trunk latch.

Speaker pods, three screws inside trunk. Two screws on outside bottom of pod.

Right side pod, pull out, disconnect speaker wires. Place pod on flat surface, remove four self tapping screws holding outer cover to inner speaker bracket. Note that outer tupperware has tabs that fit in slots. Push outer cover to remove it from speaker housing.

Remove four screws from speaker, remove speaker, install new speaker. Don't forget the four flat washers, they may stick to old speaker. New speakers come with new hardware, I didn't use it.

Reassemble in reverse order. Don't forget all the self tapping screws.

Reinstall pod.

Left speaker requires removal of antenna wires. Coax is connected to stud on antenna base. Braided cable is connected to pod housing. You must either remove antenna mast or do as I did and remove bolt from antenna base. This will allow the antenna to stay connected to base.

Remove pod, same as left.

Replace speaker same as left.

Reinstall in reverse. Make sure antenna connections are tight. If you removed mast from base, reinstall with new lock washer and 242 LocTite. If you removed bolt from base, reinstall with 242 Blue Loctite.

Note: test speakers before reinstalling seat back and shroud. Check all connections. This is a good point to check wiring to rear lights as well.

Note 2: On rear shroud there is a tab in the center. This tab fits in a slot just behind the trunk latch. Make sure the tab is in the slot before installing screws. If your trunk lid won't latch after reinstallation, the tab is not in the slot.

Note 3: If you have screws left over, start over :roflblack:

Total time is about two hours.

Tools: T20 and T30 torx bit. 10mm socket. A cordless small impact driver speeds up the operation.

Any possibility of doing a video on this? Something in the order of what "finless/Bob" does? The problem I forsee having is twisting the housing box to open it up. I'd like to see how others do that. Perhaps I'm asking for the moon?

Great description on "how to" though.

Replaced the front and rear speakers in the 2012 RTL that i had and discovered it was (in my opinion) a waste of time. stock speakers worked just as well for my untuned or untrained ears. Traded it off and the new owner now has the new speakers.

I don't have a video camera. My still camera has a video feature but it's not very good. Having said that, I'll see if I can come up with something.

What kind of speakers did you install? The J&M speakers work as a suitable replacement for the OEM speakers that went bad. If you want a concert quality sound system it will require some high dollar speakers ie; Bose or Jensen, backed with a suitable tuneable amp. Some folks have installed Polk speakers and said the sound is better than the OEM speakers. It's all in what you want and how much you want to spend.

The Polks come with some sort of foam cup. I think it was Lamont who reported that they sounded better if you left the cup in the box!
Thanks Jim! Great instructions!
