• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I've seen some recent Posts...

And yes, I'm offended by country music. :gaah:

lol
Well... I'm offended by people who are offended by country music. Including my wife, in who's presence I am forbidden from listening to it. :lecturef_smilie: (But I still love her.)

If it ain't country, it ain't music!

if someone frequently posts things that bother or offend you, just put them on your ignore list. problem solved.

:agree: Frankly, I have difficulty understanding why this whole issue is not simply as easy as that. :dontknow:

I have to admit that I do not read every post, or every thread, but I read a lot of them in the past 12 months or so, and I just haven't seen the degree of offensiveness here that has so many members upset? Either I'm missing something, or perhaps I'm part of the problem. :sour:

sometimes things that are very rude or hateful get posted, then after 2 or 3 people read it, the original writer will delete it before anyone else see's it.

I see. Thanks, Joe. I like the fact that Lamont gives folks here the flexibility to remove/edit their posts. But what you just described is the "downside" to that. It is, in fact, one reason that many forums do not allow such flexibility with posts after they've been on the board a specific number of minutes. (So as to discourage the ability to make offensive posts, then delete them so the poster won't get "reported".) Frankly, I'm not sure which forum methodology makes more sense. Folks will disagree on that point.

When Lamont gave members here complete control over their own posts, he trusted everyone to post responsibly. If what you describe is happening frequently, then that's a real shame, and perhaps the policy should be changed. If, OTOH, it happens very infrequently, then it may be best for everyone just to ignore the rude flame throwers and just move on.

I don't believe it happens very often, but occasionally it does and if it gets reported to Lamont he will generally handle the problem and or the problem maker.

Aw come on guys you're taking all the fun out of this. If I talked liked this to my wife she would slap me silly.

OK all seriousness aside!

Not saying this is an answer, but typically, if you quote the post, and the original post is deleted, the quoted post remains containing what has been possibly deleted.

PK
But people are not likely to "quote" offensive posts. Just like in this thread, they vaguely refer to them, saying "that poster" was out of line, etc., etc. What that sometimes does is degrade a situation even further as unclear posts often lead to misunderstandings, on everybody's part.

So far I've kept out of this discussion for a couple of reasons:

First...I am after all a "foreigner" and thus I always try to behave like a guest should when in someone else's house.
Being English I don't always 'catch the drift' of a conversation as there are still some US regional nuances that I don't
fully understand so I wait a while and see if subsequent posts make the meanings clearer to me.
"Denman is my guide" Normally what Bob posts makes sense to me and we almost speak the same language....almost!
So when when Bob comments in a thread that I'm having a problem with I can normally go by his very subtle comments
as to what the OP is getting at and the reactions of others can then be appreciated for what they are.

Secondly, after almost 20 years of BBS and forum activity I've learned that trolls get everywhere and that generally they are
sad lonely people who live on Cheetos and Gatorade and don't have a "real life". There are also folk who seem to be permanently
angry at everything.....for whatever reason nothing meets their satisfaction and they are always pessimistic.

The world is a big place populated by millions of individuals, a minority of whom are obnoxious. Everyone has differing tastes and
if it were any other way the world might be a quieter place but it would be awfully bloody boring! Differing tastes are quite normal and
there is no need to get into a fist fight because you like something that someone else doesn't like or vice versa. Let them enjoy
what they enjoy and you carry on with what floats your boat. If you need to interact with them, be gentle and above all respect their
right to hold different opinions from your own.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" Evelyn Beatrice Hall. No! Not Voltaire!!

You are a Spyderlover, this is your house too.

Well.......

I've been on this site for a little over 4 years,
and have 275 posts,
there can't be any way I've pissed anyone off!
Just sayin'

Except maybe Otter

Bill

I will admit to being one of those that has caused some hurt feelings lately. As many of you know, I am very particular about what I think the spyder should be. Seems my visions do not align with the engineers at BRP on most occasions. Usually when I get on my soapbox somebody does (not always with tact) tell me to shut up. In years past I was more apt to ignore the poster and go on to something else. After the "Widow Maker" , and the near fatal head injury, I find I have a harder time controlling myself. Especially when somebody tells me how I should ride. I decided a few weeks back to try to get back to being the old Otter. So, If I have offended anyone in the past, I apologize for my recent behavior.

Just sayin'............

I'll finally chime in with my opinion.

I've been reading these posts and especially some of the flame wars started here. Of course the most notable was the recent Roger/John fiasco.

Here is my opinion, and it's not pretty.

Just keep telling yourself: It's only a forum, It's only a forum.
When you start having feelings about some of the claptrap that people post, then it's time to take a look at your own life and figure out what's missing in your reality that you can be so involved with a virtual world that it affects you emotionally.

I like the camaraderie of the forum. I like the technical support that is offered here.
I LOVE the idea of meeting with and riding with people.........IN REAL LIFE. This is a good way to meet new friends. But you have to MEET them in person to make friends.

But if someone writes something that you don't like and you get all angry it's time to step away from the keyboard and go riding.
If they continue to upset you, well, that's why Lamont invented the "Ignore" button. You don't even have to read posts from someone you don't like. If there was an "Ignore" button in real life, I might not be divorced. Again.

Honestly. Take the good things from the forum. Leave the rest. It's only a bunch of electrons.
Flame wars are started by insecure morons. And I have no patience for morons.
Further, flame wars just take up space that is better used for other purposes, like trying to figure out how to change the bulbs for the fog lights without removing the frunk.
Whose the bigger fool ? The fool, or the one who argues with the fool.

Having said all that, I'm leaving now to pick up Hot Sexy Girlfriend and go leaf peeping.

The tin foil hat I wear allows me to hear a bunch of people clicking my ignore button right now...........................................
