Is this Service Contract worth it? Any advice?

I've decided (with everyone's help & input) to pass on the so called service contract...way too much $ and valid concerns about losing a lot of dinero if the dealer goes out of business (it's a dealership only plan). Gonna go with the other dealer's "Lube for Life" ...seems like a fair deal for me. Will buy the BEST warranty before original expires from either Sierra Cycles or imotorsports. And, the bike is insured, so I don't really need the "service" contract. Took awhile to figure all this out...guess I've got a foggy senior brain. Thanks all for seeing me thru this journey.

That 'Lube for Life' thing is also just another way of getting you to give the dealer/a dealer more money for jam! :banghead: There's no way the dealer (any dealer) is giving anything away, so I'd suggest you VERY CAREFULLY read the fine print in the offer, cos there's absofreakinlutely NO WAY the dealer/any dealer will be giving away any Lube jobs!! . Their intent with these things and other 'add-ons' like like 'Paint Protection' treatments or those other dealer's Service Contract etc is to boost the amount of free money they take from you and put straight into their profits - almost always, those 'add-on schemes' are pure profit for the dealer & pure loss for the sucke.... :opps: errrm, the unsuspecting buyer! :lecturef_smilie:

You've got the original warranty to cover any drastic failures; buy the BEST Warranty before the original expires from someone like iMotorsports (costs $671 atm, not anything over $1000 or even $2000) cos it is effectively an OEM Warranty Extension, and keep the rest of your hard earned where it can serve you best, in YOUR pocket! :lecturef_smilie:

Don't waste your money on buying anything else besides the BEST Warranty! If you feel you must spend more money now, don't throw it away on other questionable stuff designed to lighten your pocket & line the dealer's, just buy the BEST Warranty now to lock in the price & effectively extend your Warranty coverage out to the maximum of 5 years; then once you get your Spyder, simply follow the Golden Rule.......

Wait for it; waaaaiiit for it ........

RYDE MORE, WORRY LESS! :ohyea:

Still, when it all comes down to the nitty gritty, it's your money, & it's your Spyder, so you can do with either/both as you will - but remember, anything 'extra' you spend now will mean you won't be able to spend that money later on important things, like farkling or ryding... :banghead: . Besides, if you really feel the need to toss away some money for questionable benefit, there's lotsa other ways to do it..... :p . Just gimme a yell, I'm sure I could help you with that...

Buy only extended warranties and only the ones that come from the manufacturer. Don’t buy any off brand warranty. I am a retired new car dealer and have seen many disappointed customers who bought off brand warranties.
Service contracts are not necessary. Especially for that outrageous price you were quoted.

Ya'all have made me see the light...BEST warranty ( I was gonna do anyway) and forget the rest. The "lifetime" oil changes probably don't make that much sense at my age...maybe if I was younger....sigh.... But I really don't think I can do oil changes myself.:gaah:

:agree: ..... and let me tell you what happened to me at a Stealership ..... I've told this story before but it has been years ago,..... so for the Newbie's out here ...... I bought a used 08 GS ( in 09 ) I didn't know squat about Spyders .... but I had previous bad experiences at other Auto dealerships ..... So BRP issues a warranty recall on the DPS units .... Fine I make an appointment for that and to have an oil service done ..... I know what can happen to Tupperware when it's taken off or put on carelessly , so I removed everything around the DPS unit so they wouldn't have to ..... Because of my Mis-trust I scratched an " X " on the DPS, after I get the bike back I looked at the DPS unit and didn't see an " X " on it so I felt it was a new unit. I also felt the Tech who brought it out wasn't very happy, nor was the service manager when I went in to pay...... After I got home ( 35 mi. ) the spyder seemed to be " not quite right " .... So I checked the oil .... well it 1 quart too much and the color was quite dark. .... lesson learned - my Spyders ( 3 ) have NEVER been back to that dealership. I read in the paper a few weeks later about some acts of " vandalism " that had occurred at that very dealership ...... :dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:..... Mike

When I went to pick up my new F3 several weeks ago they had three different guys come and hard sell me with doomsday stories for the extended warranty, at $3500. And the offer was only good until I drove off with the bike. I shut them all down and got the hell out of there. The sales manager was really snotty about it too.

Freind of mine got into one of those contracts, forgot what he payed for it, but you know every time he went in for service, I ended up fixing what they flubed up!!! It was a good deal for them but made more work for me!:gaah:

I have never seen a service contract that covers tires and wear items like brake pads. However, I have only been riding for 55 years, and owned about 40 motorcycles. so I am probably wrong. Do yourself a good deed and go to another dealer.

Boy oh Boy, i agree 100% with Peter.. Only spend your $ on the Best Warranty. I am the founder and former longtime owner of a premium successful Motorcycle dealership, not HD, typically such service contracts are a bonus for the dealer, not the customer.

But please clarify? I've read (somewhere) that the 1st oil change should be done at 600 miles....
When Spyders first came out the first oil change was scheduled for 600 miles. But that was for the 990 & 998 V-twins that were used through 2013 for the RTs and 2015 for the others. When the 1330 triple was brought out in 2014 and in 2015 with the F3 the first oil change was extended to 3000 miles. So yes, you read correctly but not for the current engine.

Thanks everyone...I felt like $3500 was waaay too high. But please clarify? I've read (somewhere) that the 1st oil change should be done at 600 miles....I'm a little confused about this. Every other [new] bike I've had, 1st change was 600. I live in a rural area & it's a 200 mile round trip to anywhere, any direction, so the miles add up quickly. I can likely do oil changes myself; I just don't want to goof anything up....this 2022 F3L will be my last bike.

See my post directly above for info on the "600 mile" oil change. A thing of the past with the 1330 engine. They were recommended for the 998 twins. 2013 and earlier.

update: not too much better, but now the dealership is quoting a price of $2600. includes all parts & labor for 3 yrs. no matter how often I take the bike in. excludes battery, belts & tires. checked with another dealership (farther away) & they quoted $899 for lifetime oil changes including parts & labor.....looks reasonable to me...what do ya think?

Go with the BEST warranty from BRP. You can still get three years for $671. All BRP Spyder dealers will honor it. You have a "shyster" dealer here. Caveat Emptor

Let's put it this way..I have never heard of a person who bought one of those extended service contracts and was happy about it. They often didn't need to use it and thus tossed money away, or when they needed it, the claim was refused .."oh that wasn't covered". A wiser way is to put a little money away each month and save for the time you may need to do a repair. I'll bet, by the time you actually need the money, you'd have a huge chunk of change that would pay for the repairs and them some!

It's nothing but a money-making scam for the dealer, and nearly all dealers try the same schtick. "There's going to come a time when you need it", which convinces some suck...er, people to fall for it, but with a new vehicle that time you might need to use it is going be a very long way off because the vehicle has its own warranty. And if and when you do file a claim, you may be sorely disappointed.

Besides, a new bike has its own warranty. Why do you need another?
