• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Is this a good deal?

New to the Spyder dreamer world, wanting to get into the Spyder driving world. I found a used one with the semi auto tranny which is what I am looking for. It is a 2009 GS SE5 it has 4,5000 miles on it a tall and short windshield and a BPR backrest. And is under warranty for another 6 months. The guy had it listed for $10,500 and I told him for $9k I would definitely go talk to the bank, he said his lowest if $10k even. Seems kind of pricey for a 5 year old bike. Just thought I would ask some of the seasoned Spyder fans if that seems like an ok deal. Thanks for any advice.

I would check EBay and Crags list to see what they are selling, or trying to sell them for. If this seems like a fair price I would ask for a record of maintenance to be sure it was taken care of!
Ask if he/she is a member of Spyderlovers. If so ask for their signon name and check their posts.
If still interested then have cash in hand when you go look at it and see money in hand helps lower the price(sometimes it will).

Its a good deal. They don't make them like that any more.

Two things I would check; 1) does it have the DPS recall done to it. If not-walk away. See proof, not just a verbal.
2) How much tinkering has he done to the electrical system. Any mods done to the electrical system on these bikes is asking for trouble.

My humble opinion.

USED SPYDER

The tall windshield is great if you want one ? ? ? cost would be about $225 new........the backrest for the Passenger w/trim would be around $450 (someone chime in if that's low) ,again it's only worth something if you would buy one anyway.......and if the mileage is 4,500 it's quite low if it's 45,000 it's average........It is possible to get the complete repair history from a Dealer using the VIN number but you might have to pay them for that info.................and as said by others find out if the owner is/was a SPYDERLOVER ......you can trace back EVERY question and comment they ever made/or asked on this site., and that info can tell you tons of info.......Good Luck......Mike ......PS, if the oil was not properly maintained the ( SE-5 ) clutches could have taken a beating ? ? ?

Sorry for the confusion I kept wondering why everyone was asking if it was 4,500 or 45,000 miles so I reread my post. Opps one to many zeros. It has 4,463 miles on it. It looks sharp on craigslist, thought about posting the link but didn't want anyone getting me into a bidding war incase it is a great deal. Thank you all for your reply, compared to what most people are asking seems average for the area.

Budget..!!

best deal is the one you can afford. That being said a quick check at a dealer vin# in hand can tell you if all updates were made or ryde in and have them hook her up to buds system. Otherwise sounds like a good unit..good luck and hope to see you on the road...

Have to chime in that the deal is only good if it suits you. The price for the 2009 seems good if you compare it with KBB. ($11K or so). 4,000 miles is good--but that does not make it that more valuable. My question would be--why ridden only 1000 miles per year?

KBB and NADA are about $12,000 Excellent Retail and $9,000 Trade in. Mine is the same and has 29,000 miles.
I would -
Have a dealer check it out.
Ride it or follow the person as they ride it for 10-15 miles so you know it runs well.
Make sure the DPS has been replaced and the belt tension lowered per Bulletin.
Mine runs Great and I can change the plugs and wires and various things- Much easier to work on than the RT!
Good Luck!

The DPS and belt tensioner stuff, would that be covered under a recall or warranty for free, or something that would cost me some more money?

If the DPS was replaced BRP gave a 2 year warranty from the date of replacement. That's why its Good to find out if it was done or Not. The tension of the belt was lowered quite a bit by a bulletin. A dealer could tell you if its right or adjust. If this only has 4,500 miles as I recall neither may have been done or both? If you can,t have a dealer look at it at LEAST get the VIN # and call the local dealer and have him lookup any information on what has been done to the vehicle OR you could call the BRP Help line with the VIN # and ask what needs to be updated because you are about to buy it! Good Luck.

My 2009 SE5 Runs Great with 29,000 miles and I expect 50,000 before I sell it.
At 699 pounds the 08-2012 GS/RS are the fastest crotch rocket of any BRP Spyder.
The ST is 864 Pounds and the 2012 RT is 929 and even higher for the 2013 an 2014 models!
