Is the rear tire an automobile tire?

Got the 2015 checked at SpydeFest this year---

The question now becomes... What are dealers charging for the alignment? If it's under $150 it's all good. (at least for me... I am used to HDx1 = $100, HD might mean Harley Davidson or Home Depot... just sayin')

Had Lamonster Garage check out the new 2015 at SpyderFest this year with about 2000 miles on the ODO. They said it was real close to being true, but it was well worth the $100 to "trust but VERIFY" plus we got the kool Lamonster plastic wheel hub insert replacements that show it was Lamonstered!!:yes:

And shouldn't have to worry about uneven wear like we had on the first two sets of front tires on the 2011 before it was balanced by Precisyon at Durango's SpyderOwners event.

What are you running on yours for tires? Milage?

I have one of the soft composite tires on my 2013 RT. At 7300 miles it needs replaced now. I ordered a Yokohama sDrive , but haven't mounted it yet. The original front tires are still fine for a while longer.

I have a 2014RTS-SE6 my original rear tire was a Kenda, tomorrow (sat) I am having a General Altimax RT 43 tire put on the rear of my spyder. Mileage on my spyder is pushing 7,000 miles with the original tire. Good luck Deanna

What size tire are you getting? I looked up that tire and they don't have a 225/50r15 listed on their website. I've actually looked at quite a few different brands' websites, and nobody seems to have this size tire.

215/60-15...........and don't let anyone tell you it doesn't fit or work ..................I have this size on mine !!!!!!..............Mike & Dee :shemademe_smilie:

Nobody has EVER said that the 215/60-15 size won't work... It's just not the original size that came on the bike.
It's actually a little bit taller than the OEM, and will make your speedometer read about 2 mph slower at 55 mph. This seems to correct the "speedometer error", that bugs some riders.
Another size that DOES match up in overall height, is 205/55-15.

I'm not a tire expert, just trying to learn about the different sizes. Being that the 215mm width is 10mm narrower than the stock tire (and rim), doesn't that create an issue with the tire seating onto the rim? I'm not doubting you or questioning you, just trying to learn.

I'm not a tire expert, just trying to learn about the different sizes. Being that the 215mm width is 10mm narrower than the stock tire (and rim), doesn't that create an issue with the tire seating onto the rim? I'm not doubting you or questioning you, just trying to learn.

I now know more about Tires than i ever wanted to know!!!!! I have a 2014-RT-S and had to replace my back tire with only 7,000 miles on it... The List was great for information. I went with a 215/60/15 General Tire. I have a set of Generals on my Honda and really like how they handled. What i learned. 1. Don't bother to try and buy a tire from Discount Tires, they won't sell one for a Spyder and there are other dealers out there so i figure don't bother with them. Watch the shipping charges tho... 2. My dealer wouldn't install the tire as BRP won't authorize them too. I guess some Dealer will and others won't. 3. The really good thing that happen out of this whole mess was that i found a great Motorcycle mechanic that installed the tire that is way closer to my home than the dealer who is 75 miles from me. He installed it and I told him about the Spyder lovers and he look them up and found the U-tube video on how to do and he had no problem. He also put the beads to balance the tire in too (he said that he uses them in his tires on his motorcycle and really like them). 4. The difference that i feel is that the tire is harder and grabs the road better. And i can feel the road better which i liked. It handled great in the rain (no hydroplaning). The dealer was saying that it wouldn't corner as well. I feel or see NO difference. All in all i am please with the Tire, now will just see how many miles i get out of it. And now have more grasp of tires for both my 4 wheeled and 3 wheeled vehicles....

10mm is 1/4 inche. Difference is so small you will not see the difference.

P.S. I use Ride-On on my tires. I've been using it for year on all my bikes. I like it better than Dyna Beads because it has the added feature of puncture repair.

It won't corner as well!? These people pull stuff out of their hat (or other, less desirable places) and spread it like it was jam on toast. It really hurts their credibility. You can't blame people for not trusting their dealers anymore.

I know there are a lot of good ones out there. And we should not lump them all into the same basket. But really! The truth isn't all that difficult to come by.

On my 2011 RTS, I just installed Michelin Defenders. On the front I have 175/65R14. It's a little wider than what was on there, but works great. On the rear I have 215/60R15.

I've had the front tires on for a month, and a little more than 900 miles on them. They handle great on the Spyder.

Just installed the back tire Friday night and so far I have about 200 miles on it. Hopefully I'll get more than the 12,700 plus miles from these tires.

I measured my tire depth at around 2k miles and was around 6mm at 4k its down to 3mm and getting close to replacement..

I was hoping to get at least 8 k out of the stock tires..Looks like 5 or 6 k is about the limit on my rear tire..:banghead:

It would take more effort than I want to expend to be sure. But with a 4 ply tread you're going to get a lot flatter contact patch than you get with the stock tires that tend to 'Roll Under' on hard cornering. While true that a taller tire will usually have more flex between the tread and rim, a tire meant for a heavier car will probably have a stiffer sidewall as well.

Since we are not actually comparing the same apples here, the only question is how much difference there is. My feeling is it may be close to a wash and may even be advantage to the taller tire. I believe the difference in height is only 2%-3%.

Local tire guy told me you can go one size over or under with no problem, two sizes might be iffy, and three sizes, don't.
