IS CAT DELETE A DIY JOB ?

I would like to get Lamont's CAT bypass to try and resolve some of my 2013 RT heat issues. I was hoping I wouldn't have to involve my dealer. So what do you guys think difficult task or not. Would. We have to remove tupperware or just get the bike in the air. Also could we just go to a custom exhaust shop.

Yes you have to take the Tupperware off. No, most exhaust shops will not help you with a cat removal. Not if they want to stay in business long.

That said, IF the replacement y-pipe fits well, its not a hard job if you have any mechanic experience.

IF the y-pipe does not fit well like the SA version, its a bear of a job.

FYI pulling the tupperware off do not be afraid of. I have done it now a few times and last weekend I had all the side panels off both sides in 5 minutes easy. So it's really not hard and once you have done it once you know what to expect.

on how much you can do yourself. You will need to remove panels, muffler and "Y" pipe. Make sure you have replacement gaskets and reverse the process. If like stated the engineerin is good should be fairly easy...:thumbup:

Mine was a poor fit, and took two of us to get it on. That said, it was worth the effort, and yes, it is a DIY job.

Panels/DIY

No panels came off mine and it was a 20 min total effort at a secret place I know. Put it on a lift, go at it and let it down. Y was made on the spot and has been superb. Be sure to keep the CAT thing in case the new owner, someday, wants it on.

Cat replacement m

Replaced my cat this past Sunday. Had the front end jacked up and panels and side casings already off the bike doing other things. I have a 2010 RT-S SE5. I believe I could of done this without removing panels or casings. But you have to remove exhaust, duh! and have a good assortment of tools especially sockets and rachets it's kind of tight under there. The hardest part of this was me getting up and down on the garage floor. I'm pretty much totally disabled but hey, I can't afford to take my bike to the shop so I do what I can do. The only question I have is when reading here on SL about the cat replacement they talk about gaskets alot so where are these gaskets? Not one gasket on the pipes I disconnected just the squeeze type clamps on mine. I believe if you go with Lamont's y-pipe you won't have fitting issues - jmho, we members on SL would probably hang him if he screwed up, just saying. If you have a little mechanical ability go for it. You'll learn a little about your bike and it will give you some satisfaction for doing it yourself.

If it's illegal for a shop to remove a CAT, if they want to stay in business, why is XXXXXXX doing it? I assume they would know if they could legally remove them. I also assume they want to stay in business. Hmmm... maybe it's not illegal?

Yes it is illegal.

There is a gasket where each of the y-pipes attach to the header pipes. The 'squeeze type' fitting you call it. There is also a gasket at the muffler flange but that one is usually good for reuse.

Well, you're right. I did mention it in this thread. Although, I do remember reading it in another thread.
