Most of us have areas of expertise and then know just enough about other areas to be dangerous. I know what a capacitor is and what it does. But I've got an HVAC unit at the house with a dead capacitor marked 80+5 (I know this represents microfarads. And I know that the lower value powers the fan and the higher value powers the compressor). All pretty straight forward. I went to an HVAC company and showed them what I had and they handed me a capacitor that looked pretty much the same. So far so good.
But I got home and discovered that though my old one said 80+5, the new one says 5+80. I can assume these are the same thing. Same values at the same terminals. But I'm not sure how smart this assumption might be. I know there are some electrical geniuses here. So I'm hoping one of you can enlighten me without getting into some hind or tire or oil type thread!
Google is no help. They just want to sell me another capacitor!
