New guy here....I have only owned my first motorcycle (spyder) for 2 days now....I was hoping to ride to work tomorrow, but not sure if it will be too cold. Expected morning temp will be at 55 degrees. I don't own any type of motorcycle gear yet....except for the full face helmet, and a reflective vest. I was thinking a pair of jeans, some boots, and layering the torso. It seems that the RT will protected me enough from the wind produced while riding. would you agree? Thanks

I think a light jacket would be all you would need. Of course I don't know how long a ride it is to work. So adjust accordingly.

Yep, you'll be fine. If you have heated grips you might want to use them or wear insulated gloves. Everybody has a different tolerance for the cold.

I think you would do good w a jacket, being that most wind will seemingly be deflected.

I assume you have heated grips on a RT and that helps quite a bit not feeling cold when riding.

Let's see..!!

Your good on the dress you mentioned. Good jacket and a good pair of gloves should do it... congrats on the new ryde and welcome to the spyder world. :2thumbs: you will get the hang of it soon enough and all this will be second nature...

Thank y'all nice people on Sypderlovers.com It's about a 15 min ride, so I appreciate the input...silly me...I forgot about the heated grips....LOL

When we do long rides I always tell my wife to dress for 20 degrees colder than actual temp. So if we were doing a long ride on a 55 degree days we'd layer up like 35 degrees.
Short 15 minute rides you can dress much lighter and be totally fine.

Put on some good leather jacket and gloves..It will get cold after a bit of riding..Dont forget the hat ..I prefer leather..:ohyea:

You will be fine. I rode my home when I bought it in 30 degree temperature. I took a 300 mile ride in December in low 50's degree temperature. I really enjoy riding in 50 to 60 degree temperature myself.

You should be good. When you decide to gear up, look at some Firstgear. The textile stuff comes with a removable liner and has zippered vents. You can go from cool to cold weather depending on how you configure it. Also keeps out the rain.

For hot weather use, there are mesh type jackets by the same company.

I love riding in 55 degree temperature if it's dry and the sun is out. I wear a couple of layers and good gloves. It beats 95 degrees all to heck:D

Hope you had a good ride today!

It was 49 this morning in central OK... Clear and dry!

I was wearing a mid to heavy jacket with thin gloves and my jeans and chaps. I was comfortable but cool. It did get a bit brisk when I hit 95 on a clear open stretch. :)

Didnt have to use the heat in the grips.

55 Degrees, That's BBQ weather up here! :roflblack:
You should be just fine.

:congrats: on your new Spyder & :welcome:

Since you aren't used to riding the thing, go out on a back road and get a few miles under your belt. It ain't your pickup so keep your head on a swivel as there are folks out there waiting to run over you while they text, talk on the phone or whatever. As far as 55 degrees, geesh as a Texan you ought to be wallowing in the cool weather because in a month or so you will be back in the fry pan. Wear a helmet and a jacket and you will be fine. The RT doesn't get much wind behind the fairing and shield so you can wear the stuff you described and you will be putting most of it in the trunk on your way home! Good luck and good purchase. wg (Medina Co. TX)
