iPod discussion

We just use the bluetooth directly from our phones to sena headsets and skip the bike's radio altogether. We set the music to shuffle for random songs. 16GB iphone holds lots of songs.:)

Having a good music source is terrific!

Do you have to turn on the iPod every time you want to listen to it or does it go into some sort of "sleep" mode that would wake back up when you select it on the radio? The iPod classic was mentioned as a good option as I want to utilize the 30 pin cord that came with my bike. Does the iPod touch have the same connection? Any reason to go to a touch vs a classic? I'd love to just have the iPod connected to the bike all the time sitting in the frunk ready to play music from utilizing the handlebar controls. Thanks in advance.
I have an IPOD classic in my trunk and use the 30-pin connector. As previously mentioned, if you are listening to your IPOD and switch to an alternative source (i.e. AM, FM, weather radio, etc.), the IPOD stops and picks up right where you left off when you select IPOD again.

You cannot access all features while the vehicle is moving. For example, you cannot change playlists. I assume this is a SAFETY feature so you are not distracted watching the screen instead of the traffic ahead. Make your choices before you get underway.

I have a Itouch and Ipod classic and both work equally well. However, I have wondered if it makes more sense to use the Itouch since it is solid state. Meanwhile the Ipod Classic actually has a hard drive. I always wondered if the bumps and bruises could be shortening it's life because the hard drive is a moving mechanism?

I have the very first Ipod Classic and I have the latest Ipod Touch. I use an adapter to use the Ipod Touch since it has the lightning connector and not the 30-pin connector.

One of the best features of the RT-S is the IPOD interface. I travel in many places where I am unfamiliar with the local channels and the terrain can sure mess up your reception. Having a good music source is terrific!

Good news. My iPod arrived in the mail and I was able to successfully load a song on it and test it on my spyder. It's nice how the song title and artist are displayed on the spyder display screen. It'll be interesting to see how much I actually use it. Gotta buy some good traveling tunes and upload some CD's. Hopefully I don't get too lazy and give up on it or let it get stale with the same songs on it. I was pleasantly surprised on the things the itunes and iPod will do. It's totally foreign to me and I've been reading the manual online to learn. I like the auto sync feature.

Thanks for the help everyone:2thumbs:

Still not getting an iPhone 5S integrated with my RT-S

I posted this in the RT Section earlier then saw this thread active again and am hoping someone can help

I read all the posts related to iPhone integration but don't think they addressed specifically how you connect a 2014 RT-S to an iPhone 5S.

The RT-S came with the 9 pin to iPhone 4 cable. I went and got the expensive Apple iPhone 4 to 5S adapter ($50 with shipping) and as soon as I plugged the two cables into the iPhone 5S it said "device not supported" and I hadn't even plugged the 9 pin end into the bike yet.

I think it is related to the new lightening cable on the iPhone 5S or maybe the version of IOS 7.1 (11D167) that I'm running.

I like the idea of only maintaining one music device (my phone) and being able to change songs from the handlebars and when I get where I'm going, my phone is fully charged.

Has anyone ordered the BRP iPhone 5S cable and do you know if it actually works? Is this issue unique to the 9 pin connector and software in the 2014 RT-S or is it iPhone 5S related?

Unless someone knows of a better solution, I guess I'll have to find a cheap old, used iPhone or iPod and maintain a music only device.

Seems like it's just playing the songs alphabetically. I was hoping I could just pick a genre and play "country" or just play "classic rock". Is it possible? How do you best organize your songs? Maybe it's just playing them in the order they're listed in iTunes so if I want a "mix". I have to scramble them on the listing under "on this iPod"? Ideas? Bob?

This spyder is gonna break me. My 10yr old computer is starting to give up on me with the recent exercise of loading music on my iPod. Its been on a downward spiral for about 5 years now and yesterday the CD ROM drive quit. It would be easy and relatively inexpensive to replace the drive but it's time to bury the Dell 4600. So I sent out some cash to dell and they are sending me a new machine with an Intel i5 processor, 8 gig of RAM, 1tb of memory and a touch screen

Got the computer stuff sorted out. My old computer was really really slow compared to the new one. Windows 8.1 is crappy.

Oh yeah the iPod... I made a "county" playlist and a "rock" playlist. I was told by a fellow spyder lover to press and hold the left or right buttons on the handlebar to switch playlists and it works great!!! I had my iPod set on "shuffle" before plugging it into the spyder so I'm not sure if that's affecting it but I'm able to select either of the playlists and it plays shuffled inside that list only or I can toggle to all songs on my iPod and it shuffles all my songs. This is EXACTLY what I was hoping for:ohyea:

I-pod

I have an I-Pod in my 2011 RT and really like. I just plugged it in and forget it. When I turn the bike off, it goes off, like the radio. You can change channels like changing stations on the radio

I have an iPod Nano 4th generation, and it does play on my 2014 RT-S. You can scroll through the songs using the handlebar controlls, but you can NOT play a play list, play by artist or play by music catagory. You can only scroll through a list of all songs and play them that way.

I am looking into buying a new iPod and was wondering if anyone has gotten the new iPod Nano 7th generations to work with the 2014 Spyders? The 5th & 6th generations are more expensive then the new 7th generation Nanos. I'll settle for a 5th or 6th, but I figured I'd ask you guys first...

Are you holding the button to change songs? That switches from all songs to the play lists

Yes, I can actually scroll through and select a playlist or artist and select them, but instead of playing what I selected on the 4th gen ipod it goes back to the full listing of all my songs and start at the top again... It's quite annoying...

My 4th generation iPod stopped playing completly and would only cycle through the song titles. Actually, it was cycling through the song titles automatically without me pushing any buttons every 2 seconds and never played any songs.

I solved the problem by purchasing a 5th generation iPod Nano, and it works great! I bought it referbished on Amazon for $65. If your getting a new iPod, FYI the 2014 RT-S only likes 5th & 6th gen iPod Nanos :banghead: BRP needs to get on the ball and upgrade so the new 7th gen is compatible...
