iPhone 4 as music player

Jeriatric

Thinks out loud
Just to be clear...it is plugged in with the supplied iPod/nano cable/controller system - provided by BRP.

Spyder control panel sees it the same as an MP3 player, and will only allow volume adjustment.

On the other hand - plugged in an iPod shuffle and it allows full functionality with the spyders forward controls.

Question is....am I doing something wrong with the iphone4(settings wise) or, is what I'm experiencing NORMAL when using an iPhone as a music player.

Thanks in advance
Jerbear

If you have your iPhone Bluetooth paired to anything (like helmet headsets) then it will over ride the cable as a music device.
You cannot have music on the cable with full control and your phone paired with music to a BT helmet headset.

Bluetooth pairing option is shut off in the phone.

Kinda crazy huh......Oh well....any other tips?

Doesn't make sense other than a bad connector on you iPhone 4....

Sorry Jerry if you were closer to me I would come figure it out.

If you get a iPod touch make sure it's a 4th gen (latest iPod touch).

Found a gen 3 32gb for sixty bucks.

According to this list from Mr. Purple...it'll work.

List: These are the Compatible iPod Devices...

iPod Touch (2nd, 3rd & 4th generation)
iPod Nano (5th &6th generation)
iPad
iPad 2
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4

Edit:
After thought....the phone I was trying is a 4S....wouldn't think that should matter....but perhaps it does. Oh well....

I can add to your list.

The iPhone 5 and 6's also work too but you need the Apple lightening plug adapter.

IPhone 4

I use an iPhone 4,with no issues. I also used my iPhone 5 and none.So I know it isn't a compatibility issue. Can't offer you a solution!

The apple answer ...(update devise) lol. I used a 16Gb phone 4 with no problems other than my radio enabled dash display randomly turning off after a number of stops. It played find & allowed me another camera on trips. g'luck

The phone had a bad pin. Hey, it was free....doesn't mean it's supposed to work. Ha!

Will be fine with the iPod 3.....I hope ;)

If you buy this wierless blue tooth you can use with Iphone and you don't have to connect you iphone or ipot to that cable

All fine, that is just making it wireless basically.

What you wont get with this is the ability to manage the iPhones Songs, Playlists, etc on the dash of the Spyder. Thus you have to keep your phone up on the dash to be able to control it. Well other than the basic MP3 Player capabilities A2DP provides.

In the end using that is like plugging a MP3 player into the spyder cable. If you don't have an iPhone this is a great way to go to be wireless. If you have an iPhone it's better integrated with the spyder and thus the cable is better.

I use my iphones with the X-Mount on my handlebar hub. I can't stand the cable they supplied for my 2010 RT. Besides, its hard to read the fine print in the menu on the dashboard. Just use the bluetooth to pair with my Sena. Or I can use a FM dongle to broadcast to the FM. I wish there was a simple way to broadcast the FM to the bluetooth. If there was a speaker out jack I could probably put a dongle there.

I have a 32GB 4S and the phone integrates just fine. Volume up/down and skip forward/back work as they should. I would offer, as others have, that it's either the phone or the cable.
