• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hope you don't mind an Intro post, I didn't see a newbie or intro section.

New to the forum, I live in the Cincinnati Ohio area, and have been a motorcycle rider since I was 12 (in the 80's). I have owned around 20 or so motorcycles over the years, but will have to say the Spyder has really peaked my interest and plan to go look at one.

Sadly for the last 8 years or so my knees are going bad, so riding most bikes are hard for me. I have thought of buying a cruiser style bike, but just can't see myself riding one for long.

Currently own a 250cc Honda Rebel that a friend gave me a few years ago... in the process of trying to make it rideable again. Need new exhaust and some carb work... easy fixes, just hate spending the time to fix it since it really isn't big enough.

A huge Land Rover fan, so if anyone out there owns one and needs help or advice, let me know. (hopefully not a troll type post) - I am a Moderator over at landroverworld.org, so if you are a rover person, drop by I am under the same user name.

Anyways to make a long post short.... I look forward to taking a test ride on a spyder up at middletown cycle, since it is my closest dealer.
 
welcome You joined in correctly nice intro and all i like you have bad knees and will be getting a spyder in a few months. yes i did a test ride it was awesome. this is a very friendly bunch we have here. more like family.

...and like most other quality Forums, this one has an excellent "Search" function....most any question you might have has been hashed about a time or two..:chat: plus a world out there of after-market goodies for your :spyder2:.. Bad knees? Remember the SE5 (semi-auto transmission) might be a big help. Plus there are after-market brake levers to help with any right leg problems.

Welcome, Joey! Be sure and take that test ride...or even a couple. The Spyder can be either good or bad on the knees. My wife had a badly broken leg, and found the Spyder didn't bother her bad knee at all, except for the need to stretch her legs occasionally due to the arthritis and staying in one position too long. She hasn't tried it yet to see the effect on her new total knee replacement.

I have had work on both knees. The Spyder is very comfortable for one of them, far better than my bikes. The other one aches when I ride the Spyder, due to how far my legs are spread on this wide machine. I have found if I change the position in which I hold my legs, this pain goes away, but riding in that posture is still a bit unnatural for me, so I often forget. It is not a deal breaker, but is certainly noticeable on a long run (multiple tanks of gas). You really need to judge this one for yourself, in person, before you decide for certain. All our injuries are slightly different.

Joey the spyder is a great machine for allowing those with physical challenges to get out on the road. Heck there are even spyderlovers members who are in wheelchairs and still ride.

Like Scotty my knees bother me form time to time (3 knee surgeries and age catching up to me) so riding with my legs in one position for anything over 45 minutes causes me a bit of discomfort. To get around this I have installed highway footpegs which allow me to stretch out my legs and ride with them in a different position.

Other then this minor issue which was very quickly overcome.....the spyder is a great machine! Test ride one and you will be hooked !
 
Definitely do the test ride. The Spyder is different from anything you may have ridden in the past. Most of use who bought Spyders got hooked by doing a Demo Ride. Once "bitten" by the Spyder it's hard to escape without wanting one badly. Obviously we all caved in!!:shocked:

The seating and peg position sets up for me just great. I find it amazing how I at 5'4" and someone over 6' can be comfortable on the Spyder. But the Spyder seems to accommodate all sizes. As we all say, "You have to ride one".

Keep away from this machine at all costs. It will distort your face into a permanent grin, will make old men feel young and stop you going about your business with endless questions from interested parties.It will make you go on a 50 mile trip when you intended to pop to the corner shop for a pint of milk. It will make you want to phone in sick so you can take it out for a run. Worst of all, after a run of 100 miles you will stop to look at her,it,him or whatever and before you know what has happened to you ,you will be off again.
DO NOT TOUCH A SPYDER ( unless of course you are as mad as I am )
Take care with her and enjoy the ryde.

Don't buy one unless you have very good financial discipline. Spyder is a great machine, but you will be tempted with the many wonderful aftermarket accessories. Only the strong willed can resist.

Wow, now this is what I call a welcome... I thought Land Rover people were crazy (this is a good thing)... can't wait to go for a ride.
