insurance

Not really! It's easy to figure out they are out to screw you, BIG TIME! :roflblack: :roflblack:

 As an Agent in the business for over 38 years... I'm not happy to see this comment...

But I can understand it!
Find yourself an Agent who also rides, and you'll find the person who knows where to get the best coverage for the best price! nojoke

I trust you understand we were referring to insurance companies, not agents! I have known mostly only top notch agents who care about their clients. The only insurance company reps who have been :cus: are the single company life insurance reps who are really are only salesmen, not agents! Those yahoos mostly only care about commissions, not client welfare. Of course, they will disagree, but ...

Oops, maybe I should have asked first, you are a multi-line representative, right? I tried to verify that with a web search but your agency information is pretty thin on the web!

Hello. This is my first post here. I am thinking about buying an rs-s sm5 Spyder and got a quote yesterday from Dairyland and from Rider.

I have three motorcycles insured with Dairyland. The coverage is in PA. I am a married homeowner, female, in my 30's, with a perfect driving record and credit. Dairyland wanted $290 for the year for full coverage for a 2011 rs-s. That's about what I'm paying for my Yamaha FZ-09, which is a 115 HP sport bike. Rider quoted me $258 for the same full coverage (100/300, collision, uninsured, underinsured, etc).

THE RSS

...Well, the RSS has 105 HP. But more important 5 computers......I think it's all about the value cost to repair / replace etc......Mike ....................I think you are getting an incredible rate, I'm 68 - accident free - mtc course etc., and I'm paying $ 243.00 per year........@ Dairyland

Here is another example.

As others have said...so many factors determine premium. I am ticket free, no claims driver (but in the senior/senior category). BUT when I checked with Geico who I have both my truck and home with they were over $800 annual for Spyder (Yep I even called back and got diff person)...I have been with Safeco for 3 years...annual was $464 with 100/300, $500 deductible, and UNINSURED MOTORIST (a must have IMHO). I am switching to Dairyland (high rated company)..for exact same coverage (actually accessory/trailer amount is higher $10k) I am paying $306. I pay annual premium.
So as others have encouraged...do your due diligence for your area of country and find the best deal, not only cost wise, but IF you have a claim..how is the company rated. And above all enjoy the process of finding "the deal". Snow almost gone, blue skies, mid 30's it is a ryde day for sure!!!

Curious why you feel Uninsured motorist coverage is so important in your case? Do you not have full health insurance separate from the motorcycle to cover your hospital bills in case of accident?

I have not carried UIM for years and just don't understand why some folks think it necessary on a full coverage policy. Especially considering its high premium vs what it pays for.

After getting quotes from AARP Foremost, Dairyland, Allstate, State Farm and my renewal notice from Nationwide, Geico comes out the least expensive of these for our bikes this year by a pretty good margin. I would not jump ship for a few buck a year and I also loose 200 of vanishing deductible and loose replacement cost coverage by jumping ship but its 800 vs 1700 for the year.

Anyone know of reason why not to do business with Geico? Things to watch out for with them? Do they bait and switch once you start the policy?

Guess it depends on where you live. In Pennsylvania, it's the law that you MUST have both Uninsured Motorist and Under Insured Motorist coverage on every vehicle policy. Two separate coverages, but they are very inexpensive. I guess the idea is to give residents some protection from deadbeats without assets who drive around with no insurance, rather than tying up the court system with useless claims.

:agree: If you think that UIM is unnecessary; try spending a Month in the hospital due to some nit-wit's transgression, and see how valuable it can be... nojoke

I think a free online quote is the best way to go. I pay twice as much to insure my Spyder than I pay for my Victory Hammer. I called and questioned the price and they told me that Spyders were more to repair and had higher rates of accidents. I don't believe the accident part.

Online quotes? You'll be getting exactly what you pay for: you won't have anyone in your corner to help, when you might need it the most. nojoke

:agree: 100%. I want a private agent that I contracted with to work for me. Not a company salesman that says sorry, can't help you. Tom :spyder:

True, if you don't have good medical insurance. Between Medicare and Blue Cross my out of pocket for everything except prescriptions is zero. Why pay for additional coverage that I would not benefit from?

Not sure I understand. That would already be covered for the wife and I under our health insurance. I really do not care to pay the other uninsured guy's medical bills. Guess I could see this coverage if you did not carry health insurance. But as that is the law in all 50 states now every one is covered on that right? :-)

i agree with you up to a point. How much would you consider the value of a decent agent to be? Real dollars?

In my case, I do work with a great agent on my other insurance. Been with them for well over 20 years. They TOLD me to get the motorcycle insurance elsewhere as they simply do not want to be competitive on it. (State Farm). SF would charge me more than twice what I already pay Nationwide. Over 900 / six months PER BIKE. IE 3600 a year. Just can't swing that much value in an agent. Geico is currently quoting under 1k for both bikes for a year.
