• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Installing a new Utopia backrest

I just ordered a new Utopia backrest and was wondering if anyone has any tips for do's and dont's when installing it. The directions seem pretty straightforward, but just wanting to know if anyone has any advice to help me along.

Thanks, Bob.

thats a good ? do the 13s have the hole in the seat top already? i think they give you a piece
for the seat . you will have to cut a slit through the foam. if their are 4 mt holes on the
underside you can jut bolt the bracket on. i think you can access instructions on the website.
if it sets you too far forward there is a 1 inch setback kit available. i have it on mine. the
14 and up seats i know had the bracket top molded in. i had to modify the bracket
when i changed to the comfort seat.

The 2013's don't have the hole already in the seat. That's pretty much my concern, is the cutting of the hole. The instructions make it sound easy enough, but it seems there is always that ONE thing that is overlooked and can make an easy job a lot more difficult.

I suggest you cover the body beneath your seat with a towel or some such so nothing you drop could make its way into never never land.

I've got plenty of duct tape on hand to thwart the bolt eaters that reside in the dark recesses of our Spyders! Thanks for the reminder!

Installed one on the comfort seat of my 08GS.
I thought long and hard before I started the installation & then cut the slot slightly off the optimal postion. It comes with a slipover cover piece which masked my sin.
I did have to buy a pneumatic staple gun though as my electric one was not up to the job.

Glad I have the backrest,it is great & worth the stress of potentially messing up a $500 new comfort seat.

I removed the seat for the installation.

Good luck.
