There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Install an imobiliser/alarm on F3-T

Has anyone fitted an imobiliser to an F3-T? I am wondering where best location is for the unit to ensure it can't be accessed by others but will not be affected by heat from engine or other sources of heat.

Don't know. ..!!

But do wonder if it is needed. These units are not that easy to run off with even if the perps come with a truck. Locked bars along with the other starting proceedures make it a tough steal. Now if your neighborhood and storage is such I would say under the rear section of the spyder. seat/fender area. Don't know how big this unit is and if it will mess with the nanny or the dreaded DESS. :dontknow:

Problem I have is that insurance company require imobiliser to be fitted or no cover for theft. Very little choice of insurance providers in the UK.

The imobiliser has to be Thatcham approved in the UK and unfortunately Thatcham don't recognise the Can Am system yet

If your insurance company's requirement is an immobilizer. The chipped key/DESS immobilizer that comes standard on your Spyder should suffice. If the requirement is an alarm system with a loud warning horn. Then you will need to add it. Some insurance companies in Canada are requiring an alarm to be added.

Alan, your new bike has an OEM immobiliser in as much as the engine cannot be started without the correct ignition key. You do not need an after-market immobiliser to satisfy UK insurance companies requirements. I have insured both of my Spyders with Bike Sure and they're happy with that. The Spyder cannot be "hot-wired" and due to its size cannot be lifted onto a truck or into a van. Also the parking brake cannot be de-activated as it is controlled by the ECM and the ignition must be switched on before the brake can be released. If you're still worried, the best solution is to chain the rear wheel to a ground anchor in your garage. There is no recorded case of any Spyder being stolen in the UK. Your dealer will confirm all of the above.

Thanks for that, I will contact Bikesure tomorrow as it is them who are insisting I need the Thatcham cat 2 product.

I would suggest that whoever you spoke to at BikeSure is totally incorrect! I also have a Citroen and like most modern vehicles it
has an OEM immobiliser. It is also insured with the Adrian Flux/BikeSure group. The Immobiliser on that isn't Thatcham approved either!
I might suggest that you have a word with some other UK Spyder owners here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/uks...group_comment_reply&notif_id=1470922598602269

To my knowledge NONE of them have after market security products.

Alan, I agree with OJ that the factory immobiliser should satisfy bikesure. I'm with them and Markerstudy as the underwriter.
I did have to fit a tracker as well but that was due to not having a garage. I also have a requirement for a 'visible deterrant' so I've got a disc lock I put on the back wheel. Didn't get asked to fit anything additional alarm/immobiliser wise.

I see you're in Dumfries, did a tour of Scotland on the F3 a couple of weeks ago and spent my final night in Dumfries. Didn't see much of the town as I arrived late on and was off early next day to head home. Stopped in the Travelodge on the A75.

Don't know if you've had chance to do much touring yet but mine gave no trouble during my 1300 miles in a week. A fair few of which were spent 'giving it some' on those fanatstic Scottish roads.

Spoke to bikesure again today and they say that they will amend insurance document to remove the Thatcham reference for oem immobiliser. My previous spyder was an RTS and there was no ref to Thatcham in the paperwork. Thanks for your input. I have 1400 miles on the clock now with 900 of them due to a trip to Southern Ireland for a few days. We did approx 6000 miles a year on the RTS and hope to do similar on the F3.
