Hardship for the drunk driver?....cry me a river.

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

There is a start button for cars that can detect alcohol blood level, but the liquor and restaurant industry are blocking it because it will lower their profits. If someone sober pushed the starter for the drunk, he would face criminal and civil penalties, perhaps a 2nd degree murder charge. The smart start button would reduce some of the 10,000 auto alcohol related death just as seat belts do. Drunks have such impaired abilities that at DUI checkpoints they can not count backward from 10 or say the alphabet. It's unlikely they could circumvent the smart start button without help. Society is partly to blame for these tragedies, by not insisting on implementing anti-drunk driving technology. People will come up with excuses such as cost, individual freedom etc.. It's easier to finger point than to do anything.

was any surveys done to see if the plates reduce drunk driving i really think it is a great idea, they would never do something like that in new york but i think it is a great idea. every once in a while they put up a road block on one of the roads here late on a weekend night, and you have to sit in it until you get there, now i don't know if it is the grey hair and grey beard but i have never had to roll down my window in the road blocks i just get waved through. the other thing that amaze's me is people see the road moving slow and the jerks get pulled over for a seat belt, you have to figure all the flashing lights mean something so put your seat belt on b4 you get to the cops. but i like the plates

They are now using ignition interlocks in Washington state that take a photo of the person doing the blowing as it is done. No pic/not the actual driver? Biiig trouble when you get busted!

I don't think that defending individual freedoms is an excuse. Assuming someone is guilty of an illegal action while having no prior reason to believe so is absolutely a violation of those rights. The "if it saves even one life" argument is a poor one, in the end tyranny costs many more lives and makes the lives not lost much less bearable. Regarding this young man, it is not the juror's job to determine his sentence, but if the judge determines that the man is truly contrite them his actions may affect the totality of his sentence, nothing wrong with that. People do make tragic mistakes, is that the same as the hardened criminal who does such things purposefully?

Did you read any of the posts about lives ruined by vicious, selfish drunk drivers? They all knew what they were doing when they got behind the wheel. There is absolutely no excuse for that wanton, irresponsible behavior.

Of course, I could opine that there is no excuse for you to attempt to subjugate my thinking, that it is wanton, irresponsible behavior on your part. We all have opinions.

just my thoughts
i didn't start this post to start a argument between members, my ex was a drunk and would drive like she was invincible, i would beg her not to drive but she never listened. i used to hope she did time for a DUI hoping it might straighten her out but she never got caught. when we were together we had sprint cell phones and i found out i could track her so when she was out i would track and see where she was and i would go and disable her car in one way or another but she would get her drunk friends to try and fix it. so if you have not lived or loved someone that is a drunk driver you have no clue what it is like. that is why i started this tread and why i feel that all drunk drivers that hurt or kill someone should have the book thrown at them, because they feel like IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO ME until it does, and as far as orange plates with red letters go. that to me is a great idea, because someone that wants to drink and is out late at night will know that the police will see the plate and keep an eye on them to see if they are driving ok and not going to ruin someones life.

He wasn't talking about the drunk driver in the original post. He was commenting on the plates used in another state for those that had been caught and were only supposed to drive under certain circumstances. He said the hardship was on the family, if they had to drive the convicted driver.
Maybe a hardship on the family is a good thing. Then, they may talk some sense into the person, which may make him/her think twice before getting behind the wheel again after drinking.

I apologize to all. However, I will not be part of a conversation which in any way makes it sound remotely ok to drink and drive. I've seen too many lives ruined. Apparently there are a number of angry alcoholics who deny their complicity in the continuing carnage of families and children.
