• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Impressions after DPS Recall...

Getting mine done tomorrow, wasn't broke - but by the sounds of it - It will be fixed better than it was. I'll report back after the Thanksgiving weekend (yeah we get it a month early up here!)
Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian Friends
Up for a ryde Monday? :2thumbs:

I initially had some problems after the install, but after some adjustments my Ryde is handling better than ever. I've got my confidence back in her and having a great time ryding again!

Hard streeing

Friends, I would like to know if I have a steering problem. My 2008 SE5 Spyder is easy to steer when when moving but when it's stopped it couldn't be harder. The DPS was supposedly gone over and I run the low tire pressures of 16 psi and 29 psi as recomended. Is my situation normal?

Do you have your engine running.?
If the engine is off, then the DPS is off. If the engine is running it should steer easy.

Did you have the new DPS gen2 installed yet?

The force required for turning the bars while sitting still will vary greatly depending on the surface you're parking on--- as well as the tire pressure. I try to avoid turning the wheels while not moving.

Had mine done last weekend and I will agree with everyone, far more enjoyable ride. Also took the time to add the additional lights I got from Custom Dynamics......sure am bright now!!

We met??

I believe we met. I have not been very regular on here but when I read your descriptions and saw your Spyder I think we took our trike class together. I am the middle aged long time harley riding biker who had the all black SE5.

I would have guessed that she might be all of 5' tall. ;)

Simple and short.... 2010 RT-S SE5 One up and two up ryding....

Husband- 6'2" 225lbs ish likes more spirited type ryding....

  • The steering responds faster. Or what I will call "Micro". I experienced more car like steering abilities and that is a welcomed feel for me
  • What I will "Lag" in the very beginning of the steering is almost gone
  • fast left to right steering is closer to what I would call normal in responsiveness
  • We live in a rainy area, so the roads all have "Crowns" in the middle. I used to always feel a need to push to the left more than I thought I should in order to keep the bike on the road where I wanted it. Now the steering responds more like a car (Easier to keep in my lane where I want it) and I am not using as much effort to keep it straight
  • Big rigs had been a bit uneasy for me to deal with when the wind would start hitting the bike. Now the bike is more stable do to the steering being "Micro" controllable now vs more of a manhandling type steering before
  • No change in the dead stop turning. Still needs the bike to be moving in order to not have to "Manhandle" it
  • Major win for me.... To get to our home we have to come off a very busy street with a 40mph speed limit, down hill, turning right onto a street needing to do about 8-10mph to do it safely in most weather. Our bike would always fight us as far as steering onto this street to the point of always, with out fail, put us into granny and end up in the center yellow line. It did not matter how we took the turn. Now that same turn no longer has the "Stiffness" that the steering once had. I though it was because of the center of gravity moving so far forward forcing the transfer of the weight to go all to the left front tire resulting in a stress to the power-steering unit. We figured it was normal for this bike and simply needed to be aware of this for safe ryding. Well that is now gone. We can go into and out of that turn like a normal two wheeled bike does. This was the single most noticeable improvement we found. The rest are more of a nit-picky but welcomed experience.
Wife - 5'1" petite....

  • Less fatigue allowing for longer more enjoyable ryding
  • "Felt" easier to steer
  • driving experience is now more like she "Thought" it would be like when we first purchased the bike
  • Not much else of a difference

There you go... Keep in mind our driving area for this was from Enumclaw Washington to Seattle and about half way back. This included an AVG speed of about 41mph and a lot of curvy/hilly roads with about 10 miles on I-5. Anyway... our $.02

DPS Recall

I agree with the rest. Had the recall done on my 2009 RS and it's been great. Never had any problems before but I can sure tell the difference on the highway. Lane changes are much more controlled at high speeds. Love those posted 85 MPH speed limit signs in TX.:2thumbs:

Had my DPS recall done on Wednesday of this week and am having the opposite reaction. I really liked the steering on my 2008 SM5 from the start and only had the updates installed about 8 weeks ago. The one pdate made the steering a little looser and quicker but I quickly adapted and still loved the ryde. Now, though, after coming back from Cuba (about 180 miles) and putting another 100 miles on it today, I'm not lovin' it. It is real "twitchy" on straight aways - and these are roads I'm familiar with and ride a lot at 65-70ish without a thought and with one hand in the past. Then in the corners it seems to be so loose that it's difficult to hold a steady line -yet even a small pressure/correction takes you off your line and makes it feel out of control for a bit. I ride two wheelers as well and ride pretty aggressively and really enjoying taking the corners at the upper limits and am finding myself not enjoying doing this now. I'm a real relaxed rider and don't feel I'm telegraphing any "twitches" to the bars, yet I find myself having to hold the bars in position to keep it from tracking on the road, yet can't give too much input without straying out of the path - disconcerting! My husband took it out for a short jaunt down our country road and felt it was, in his words, "not good". He's a Ducati guy and rides hard and said that he would not want to ride the Spyder hard now at all. Guess I'll give it a few more weeks and put a few more hundred miles on it before I consign it to slow speed, down town rides - or learn to adjust to the new feel, I hope.
