I See the 2014 RT has the Radiator Up Front . . . I Wonder . . .

I wonder if it would be possible to relocate the radiator on a 2013 RT up front, like they have done with the 2014s.

radiators

i was wondering if we could install the new fans to blow outward like the new bikes on slow speed rides or in traffic

From the looks of the redesign of the front end of the RT there is more open area toward the middle, so an up front radiator makes sense. The 2013s don't have that much air intake as the 2014s as I see it. The 2014s should let a lot more air in through the lower front. I hope they have a way to let it pass through in places other than on the riders feet, and solve the overheating problem of the 2013s.

Been wondering about that also; at cruising speed, wheres the 2014 air flow coming out at?

While at my dealers today, he stated that the new engine et al, does not generate a great amount of heat :dontknow: if i understood him correctly. he was curious as to why brp only put the engine in the rt.

While the radiators' doubling and relocation has gotten a lot of attention (rightfully so), I'm thinking as much of the heat management improvement may also be that the exhaust appears to be routed down the front and then below the engine, thus NOT having it run through the body like it was previously. They're not trapping the exhaust heat under the panels.

:agree:

Isn't the cat converter moved outside the Tupperware just ahead of the rear tire for 2014? Gotta believe that will be a HUGE help!

The cat's still in (essentially) the same place as preivous years...
I doubt that you could move the radiator up front; the bracketry and bodywork changes needed would be... epic!
And remember; they also added a second radiator while doing all of this...

I Believe that I heard a BRP design engineer say that structural changes were necessary to accomodate the new engine and those changes were made in 2013 on the RT, not so on the others so they were not ready to accept the new engine....

Probably can move the radiators on the the 13's but the 12 having a different frame probably won't work and since the Tupperware is different that something else to be purchased ad since the fans are speed controlled along computor controlled there's gonna be a lot more components to buy other then just the radiators and fans. The computor looks at what speed the bike is running to determine which direction it will blow. Wiring will be different to work a 2 direction fan. So will it be economic to switch it Very doubtful

I don't know if anyone else has done this but I wrapped my exhaust in DEI 2" wrap and it has made quite the difference. I brought it up at local auto parts store, $50 for a 50' roll, plus metal wire ties to hold the wrap in place. I did the same on my Harley and reinstalled the heat shields and you never even seen it. Just my 2 cents.

2014

i hate to say this but i think that all of us that have heat issues,( and i don't understand why some bikes do and some don't ), are just stuck with our bikes because to change the bike around to make it like a 14 would not be cost effective, by the time BRP comes out with a fix,( if they ever do), it will be more than a year and most of us would of most likely sold out bikes. i personally am thinking of taking a loss and buying a new one. i know i am nuts doing this but if i want to continue to ride and not worry about burns on my right foot it is my only option right now. with the season coming to a end for some bike riders with the cold weather, sales are down and selling right now would be pocket suicide. so i will let BRP run their test's and see what they come up with. i have put money into the bike making it the way i want and i will see what happens next. :banghead:

Ghost view of the new RT

I've been trying to find the ghost view of the RT showing the location of the Radiators and the relocation of the cat converter and pipes outside the tupperware. I saw it somewhere. I think this will be a useful picture. Can someone post it?

You bring up a good point. You may spend more money turning a 2013 into a 2014 even taking into account any loss with trading up to a new year. I turned my 2008 RS into a full fledged RT (over $6,000 in goodies)--a year before the actual RT came out. It still was not really an RT, and the difference was very noticable when I became a RT owner. I still have and ryde my original Premier Edition RT.

With as much unhappiness as you are experiencing with the 2013, AND, the desire to keep ryding the :spyder2:--it might be worth it to take the hit, move on, and purchase the 2014. We all make a decision or two like that. I have for sure.
