I need help on installing an electronic cruise control

When we bought my wife's Spyder last year it had a Rostra cruise control on it but we could not get it to work properly, it would constantly surge. I took it all off in the spring but now she says she would like to have another one put on. I need to know how many magnets need to go on the front pulley, 1 or 2?

Thanks

Is there no one out there that can answer this simple question???? I looked in previous threads but I didn't see anything. Has no one put one on?

Sorry but I've never installed one on a bike as it was easier to buy it already installed.

But I'm thinking two magnets would be correct.

You just need 1 magnet on the front pulley. If you use the rear you'll need 2 because of the much lower RPM.

Another question. How close should the magnet and the speed sensor bolt be from one another. The instructions say 1" +/- 1/4" but I remember last time it was about 1/2" away.

The may be providing a better magnet than previous kits. I think mine is about 3/8". Nothing down there moves (or at least it shouldn't) so I think the closer the better. 1" sounds like a lot of clearance to me but then I'm not building that kit.

Your surging problem is due to your dip switch settings. The best set up is between a 1/4 & 1/2 inch. I have the correct settings written down, if I can find them I will post them. Do you know which Rosta model you have?

Dip switch settings on Audiovox/Rosta electronic cruise control should be 1-off 2,3-on 4,5,6,7-off 8-on 9,10,11,12-off. That is what I have set the six units I have installed at with no surging even at low speed

Thanks swrafey2000,

I have the Rostra 250-1223 universal cruise on the bike. I believe that those are the setting I put on my unit as well but I will confirm this tonight:thumbup:. I finished up last night putting the speed sensor on. I put it about 1/4"-3/8" away from the magnet. I was going to take it out to try it but a bad storm set in. I am going to try it out when I get home tonight. I will post the verdict.

Congrats. One other make sure you waterproof the control pad good. What works best is the clear rtv and then a Murphy waterproof skin over it.
