• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I need a fuel controller

Hi guys and gals,

I put a HMF exhaust on my wife's 2009 RS SE a couple of months ago and she just loves the sound but when the bike heats up it is popping quite a bit. So, I decided that a fuel controller is needed and I have been thinking of the Juicebox pro, HMF Optimizer or the Power Commander as a possible fuel controller. I know the HMF Optimizer is 'made' for the pipe but is it the best one? It is $100 more than the JB Pro.

I know opinions are like butts but I still would like some from those who have gone through the process.

Would STRONGLY recommend the power commander V with auto tune. Best setup on the market...in my opinion of course. I started with the juice box and had some issues with it and decided to try the power commander with auto tune and it worked perfectly!

:firstplace:have to agree ! I shopped around and researched for a couple of months and decided to get the PV5 with autotune, in fact ordered it last night out of ebay...$380 for PV5 and $220 for autotune. :ohyea:
 
Thanks for the advice guys but my wife will not let me spend that much for the fuel controller. She would like to just get a Juice Box to stop the popping on deceleration, she doesn't care for more power. The decision now is whether to get the Regular Juice Box or the Juice Box Pro. What is the difference and is one better than the other or is the Pro just a pain in the butt to set up?

I have the Juicebox Pro and would suggest you go with this instead of the regular Juicebox.It holds up to ten maps and you will just pick one and go with it.You can load one of the 3 maps that come with it or it is compatible with power commander maps made for the Spyder also.You also can customize the maps if you choose to do so.Search this site for Juicebox pro and you will get a lot of info.
 
Juicebox Pro here. Easy download and setup with the power commander map. My popping issues are gone. She runs great now. Just PM me if you need more info. I run the 2 Bros single and K&N filter...
 
Which fuel module to use depends your basic skill at tuning; if it's low, one of the auto tuners is easiest to use; PC V, or maybe the Cobra Fi2000 Pro (put one of the latter on my 2011 M109R----and it worked great). Buying a fuel module because "it's cheaper" is not a good plan, unless you're comfortable with doing the tuning it may require. You can see in my Sig, what I've got on my Spyder. I'm very satisfied with the JB Pro (I bought the Top Tune Kit that included the K & N filter). Taking off the body work to get access to the engine area, and O2 sensor line (back under the seat as I recall) then putting it all back together were the biggest part of the JB Pro install (time consumptive not mechanically difficult). I used one of the TBR supplied fuel maps (#2 I think), and have not bothered to install the supplied Top Tune software that allows down loading of other maps to the JB Pro. Since then I've played around with the three adjustable fuel circuits on the JBP; I've settled (for now) on a 15% leaner than stock JBP setting for the low and mid range circuits, and a 10% leaner than the stock JBP setting on the high range circuit. Runs great with my combo. The JBP fuel circuits adjust (leaner or richer) by three #0 Phillips head rheostats (like household dimmer switches). There are hash marks at 10% increments on the rheostats, though you may adjust them anywhere in between. Since all that...................I've read another thread, where a fellow forum member is about to install an air fuel ratio gage on his Spyder to allow real time monitoring of his AFR as managed by his JBP. Sounds pretty cool, and just the ticket for that final tuning dial in. It's the end of the riding season here, so that'll probably be on hold until next spring. If you haven't been to Two Brothers site and reviewed their PR and how to install video on the JBP, you should do so (Note: The location the video tech used to set the JBP is FOR DEMO PURPOSES ONLY! If you get one; DO NOT install it there!). I mounted mine next to the fuse block under the trunk lid (had to trim the plastic cover that goes over the fuse box so the JBP would fit there). The instructions that come with the JBP are fairly comprehensive and easy to follow. Good luck! BTW: If you decide to go with the PC V, I'm sure you'll like it. I've used a number of Dyno Jet products over the years and they make excellent kit.

I know every bike is different, but I originally had the juice box pro and it did not fix my problem with popping on decel. Once I switched to the power commander, all is golden

My dealer told me a while back that the original JB is no longer made, only the JB PRO. Sounds like it will accomplish what you want. If your dealer is any good, he should be able to install it and stop most of (probably not all) the backfiring.
 
I have an 09 GS with a single Two Bothers exhaust . I had back fire on development issues and added a power commander. I used a preconfigured map they had, and all is good. For me I did not see a value in auto tune.
 
I'd recommend installing an AFR meter first and see what the motor is actually doing. Never been a fan of tuning in the dark...;)

An AFR meter is a gauge that has a wideband o2 sensor that you install in the exhaust before the muffler. It measures the Air Fuel Ratio of the motor as it's running and presents that on the gauge in numeric values.
Ideally, you'll be able to load up any map in just about any fuel controller, then take the spyder for a ride and you'll be able to see first hand what the motor is doing. This will allow you to tune your fuel controller correctly for your specific needs.
The Innovate MTX-L is probably the most common gauge and is one of the few that is also water resistant. It can be had from just about any online retailer from ebay to Amazon or directly from Innovate for about $160. There are others out there that cost more and have more features, but the MTX-L will do what you need.
I honestly can't imagine properly tuning any motor without one....
 
Had same popping issue w two brothers exhaust - installed juicebox pro - map 2 and no more back firing at all - run smoother in hotter temp too

Got mine off eBay for under 150 - new -

Easy install but time consuming
