• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I must have taken an overdose of stupid pills today.

Thank you all for your kind commeents. It was a great wake up from my friends on SL.

Three Wheels: Your stock market advice was good--I got out of the stock market about 4 months ago and moved my stuff to conservative mutual funds. My portfolio has improved slow but sure, since then.

Daveinva: Most tourists visit AK between mid June and end of August. Most of the snow is melted by mid June and the leaves are yellow and coming down by the end of August. The biggest tourist attraction--Denali National Park is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Likewise most of the name brand hotel/motels. Bugs--in Anchorage area the B-52-s (mosquitoes--BIG) are out and about in May. By the end they have died off. I have never been bothered by bugs while riding during the summer. If you like to camp out--you will surely find them.

Thanks again all, for cheering me up.

So you got out of the market 4 months ago...before it hit 13K hmmm and moved into conservative mutual funds. I don't want to be the bearer of any bad news but if you are in mutual funds, you are STILL in the market. The only way you are not in the market is cd's, money under the mattress and money market. I am not advocating that just sayin'. What you did was lessen the risk and that may or may not be good depending on your age. Anyhoo I just thought I would mention that so you are not in a false sense of financial security.

I am very aware that mutual funds are assorted stocks etc. At 66, and on the verge of retirement, it was very disheartining to see the portfolio drop 20% everytime something went bad on the news. At least I am showing gains since I changed things around and went conservative rather than agressive. Since I am not putting more in, I have to hang on to what I have.

Good if you are happy that's what counts. As an investment professional I just thought I would point out those facts in case you did not know.
Another avenue is also an annuity with lifetime income that cannot ever go away regardless of market circumstances but still grows in good times. Takes the risk to your retirement income principle away, shares in good times but does not penalize you when things take a sour turn. Congrats on your pending retirement!
