• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I reported awhile ago that I carried 750ml or 25.3 oz., however it was in a glass liquor bottle :lecturef_smilie:and some folks here ....feinted etc....... So I tried an Aluminum Bud Lite can 16oz. size.... I put some Gas in it turned it up-side down and left it in the sun for 12 hrs :yikes: .... well it didn't leak ( I'm sure the gas expanded and produced pressure ) nor did it smell.... So figure your avg. mpg's and divide 128 by either 16 or 32 oz. ( 1 or 2 cans ) and that will tell how far this Reserve will get you.....This was an experiment .... and everyone here is an adult ( mostly ) and can decide for themselves about this .... I'm not interested in hearing your criticism or stupid remarks if that's how you Roll :roflblack: ..... and the folks that I'm addressing this to, know who they are likely to be ................... Other than you having to drink that Bud Light crud that is a great result. Most containers just need a petrol proof o-ring to work.

I was going to fab up some mounts for (2) Hiking Alum gas containers mounted on either side of the Fuse panels but even a 1500ml (.4gln) x 2 was not enough for my piece of mind. So, i just went with a 1 gln Rotopax, will make a lightweight Kydex mount for the Battery panel cover to keep the 7 or so lbs centered and will throw it in the Frunk.

How many trys...:roflblack: but will work because it is similar to the fuel bottles they sell. I have one ...only because the beer I drink comes in little bottles....:shocked:

Cruzr Joe has stated using Tru fuel (think they are 32oz each)IMG_4985.JPGcarried as spare in the trailer.
Is already a fuel ready can so just refill:thumbup: free bud cans may work for now,
assuming you don't accidentally store & mix with a fresh pack:lecturef_smilie::roflblack: at least the Tru fuel cans look different & are better suited for fuel not just ethonal.

Your spirit of....... ingenuity: always has me amazed! :clap:
But for the couple of extra bucks: it's just as easy to pack the fuel into a container that has been designed, tested, and approved by somebody with some several layers of liability policies to protect us from any mistakes that they might have made... :shocked:

Carrying fuel is a pretty big deal: if things go wrong...

The other advantage is that it tastes better than Bud Light.

The disadvantage is someone has to drink the Bud Light first.

How many people have actually run out of gas? You can safely assume 180 miles on a tank, not many places where you can't find a gas station within 150 miles. Mike's idea is an easy safety idea. If it will keep beer safe, it should hold the gas, as his test proves. You could have a support van follow you with all of the tools and parts that you might need, but few of us do. Murphy Brown is a bit old to still be bullet proof, but she rides all over the country, sometimes alone and she isn't afraid of any problems and when it has happened (once), she has figured out a solution. Being prepared for the average issues, is never a bad idea.
 
While :agree: with your assessment of the range of the bikes: some folks like to plan for the "unintended consequences of a change in plans." :shocked:

Way to flip flop. I average 30 mpg so I would not safely assume 180. but at this point I don't carry any extra fuel, once i click under half a tank I am looking to fill up. I try not to let it go below 2 dots. Now if it were my jeep the get gas light now light would be screaming at me.
 
I think Mike has done a good thing in getting this discussion started and I also salute his ingenuity. Also thanks to the other posters about gas bottle products available.

I've never felt the need to carry extra gas except once when I was really sweating it about reaching an exit with fuel out west. But I carried a gallon of gas all the way to Alaska and back and never needed it. That was thanks to good planning by our group's organizers.

So extra fuel may be a good idea, it can't make up for staying attentive.

:agree: ... and I have never used my extra gas for my Spyder, however I have given my extra gas to a few other people one Spyder & TWO Harley guys.....32 oz. of gas ( see my 1st post ) won't get you far, but it also doesn't take up much room for something that ..... most folks won't ever use ......Annnnnnnd the bottle hasn't leaked ( no smell either ) since 8 / 2 ( and it's still upside down ) .....annnnnnnd it was FREE ........ Not being a beer drinker,I am not seeing what kind of container this is that you used Mike. could you get me a picture?
