• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. I done my first oil change today on my spyder. Took me longer than I expected it too. But I am glad I did it myself. Ordered the BajaRon K&N oil filter kit & used Amsoil metric motorcycle oil in 10w40. The spyder shifts smoother I think. Also added some Stabil to the fuel tank when I topped it off with pure 91 Oct gasoline. I am ready for winter. Even though I hope to get in a few more rydes before the really cold air sets in.

It is good to ride a bit after adding the Stabil, (or whatever you decide to use). This gets the additive throughout the fuel circuit. Just adding it to the tank will not do this.

First Oil Change

:coffee:How much time did it take you? Did you raise your Spyder? Any issues with doing the job? Any other helps you can give us. Thanks for your time. .......

It took me about 3 hours total. I had a problem getting the spyder to back up on my metal car ramps. They kept sliding on the concrete in my garage. So I used my small floor jack to jack it up and used concrete blocks under the front wheels to get it about 6 in higher. I then put wooden blocks under the back wheel 3 in high. This was high enough to get to the oil drain plugs and get my drain pans under there. The drain plugs popped lose with no issues.(T-45 torx on the eng drain plug and 6mm Allen on the trans drain plug) I loosened the engine side just enough to get a good flow then let it drain until it stopped then removed it. Still a lot of oil left to drain. On the transmission side I removed it all at once. Not a lot of oil comes out here. Left it out until it stopped dripping. I did put paper towels rolled up inside the plastic on both sides around the drainplugs to keep oil from running down the plastic panels it worked.
I did use the original drain plugs and torque them to spec. Eng drain plug to 21ft-lbs trans drain plug to 15 ft-lbs. I could not use my torque wrench on the filter cap as I did not have the right adapter to fit the 36mm socket I had. I just screwed it on by hand as far as I could then snuggled it down with the socket. It should have been set to 18 ft-lbs of torque. I put some dielectric grease on the new o-rings on eng drain plug to make it go in easier.
Hope this helps out some else on their first oil change . I know I done a lot of reading on this forum and watched videos posted on YouTube from other spyder owners on this forum. They were very helpful. I appreciate all of the useful information posted here and the videos.Keep it up it does help us newbies.

Ron,yes I added the Stabil to the gas tank at the gas station before I topped it off. Then had a 6 mile ride home. Also rode another 20 miles after the oil change.
Thanks for the advise though. :^)
