• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I-40

Since I will be riding something like 90%+ the entire length of I-40 from Kingman, AZ to Maggie Valley, I'm wondering what good sights there are to see along the way. I know I'll stop at the Meteor Crater in Winslow, AZ, as well as Winslow itself. Also Tucumcari, NM, since that is where my mother was born. Any other good stops I should see?

I'm half considering Iron Butting it and doing it in 2 days, though I rather doubt that will happen.

i don't know what types of sights you like to see. The meteor crater is quite a natural sight. There are things to see in Oklahoma City (I think the Cowboy Hall of Fame), Memphis and Nashville (music industry).

How far off the road are you willing to go? That may widen your opportunities.

Wigwam Hotel in Holbrook, AZ Petrified Forest

The Wigwam Motel in Holbrook has concrete Tee Pees for Hotel rooms, its located right on Bus 40. Just outside Holbrook, AZ is the Petrified National Forest (worlds largest area of Petrified Wood). About 60 miles from the New Mexico State Line is Houck AZ, the location of the Fort used in the 60's TV show "F Troop". Don't stop at the "Dinosaur Land" near Holbrook, AZ. It is just a tourist trap.

If you overnight in Albuquerque try a hot air balloon ride early the next morning before heading out, beautiful views of the city, mountains etc.

It's already 2000 mile trip, and I'll be a bit pressed for time but still want to see stuff, so I want to stick pretty close to the interstate.

Bricktown in OKC

I 40 runs through OKC. A short stop at Bricktown and Bass Pro can't hurt.

There is a gas stop that has a cool car museum right at the gas station. Can't remember where exactly it is but maybe someone else will chime in. It comes at just the right time for a Spyder gas stop.

Graceland in Memphis. You must try the Memphis BBQ. I think one good place is Corcky's BBQ. Grand Ol Opry in Nashville.

Is the Maxwell House in Memphis? I can't remember.

What's that hotel where they have the ducks parade through the lobby? The Peabody!

East of Amarillo, on the south side of I 40, is the largest cross in the U.S. Don't know what church but people do stop to take a look. Between Amarillo and Shamrock, it always seems to have a strong cross wind. Otherwise there's not much to see from the highway.

There are some pretty cool caverns west of St Louis, as well as some nice wineries.

Also...a warning...the section of I-40 just west of St Louis, especially near Six Flags park, is VERY, VERY congested in the spring and summer and known for horrendous accidents (I am the victim of one...in 2005 I ended up with a broken back and five others were killed). Just be extremely careful driving through that area, both east and west bound.

I-40 doesn't go thru St. Louis. Though I can attest to the congestion around that city.

Where I-40 runs through Kodak, TN there is a real nice Can Am Dealership by the name of Mountain Motorsports. The exit that you get off to go there is the road that leads down through Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and into the Smokey Mountains. I will be staying 1 mile north of I-40 from that exit. Pigeon Forge has a lot to see and do, including Dollywood.

Just sayin'............

Cadillac Ranch just on west end of Amarillo

About 4 miles west of the west end of Amarillo off the south frontage road you can see about a dozen old Caddies buried nose down, fins up in a field with a collage of graffiti to adorn them.

Oklahoma City is a Must Bricktown is right on I-40 u have Bass Pro and some great food everything from Hooters, Toby Keith Restaurant, Coyote Ugly to Zios Italian food Many many food places an Bricktown is very Pretty an lots to do. An the botanical gardens are very cool an its all in just a few blocks all together. Right on Reno ave. just 1 block off I-40. Have fun an ride safe .

The Big Texan in Amarillo, home of the 'Free 72oz Steak Dinner' The the wonderful smell of the stockyards somewhere in the Texas panhandle...

Oh, and eastern New Mexico's Cline's Corner ('worth waiting for')

There's some great BBQ in eastern Oklahoma a couple or three miles south of Sallisaw. It's called Wild Horse Mountain BBQ. Take the exit with the cemetary and go 2 or 3 miles. It's off the main road on the left on a little side road.

There's perpetual road construction in Arkansas, just east of Little Rock. Sometimes it's best to take a detour than to wait in the traffic. You'll have to research this. I don't recall the exits.

Don't forget to get your picture "Standin' on the corner" while you're in Winslow.
