• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. How to Replace the RTS Speakers

The Fronts are 5.25"
The Rears are 4.00"
These sizes are screw hole standards.

As for speakers, I just bought from Bestbuy:
Polk Audio dxi525 Marine Certified for the front (on sale now btw, normally $89)
Pole Audio dxi400 Marine Certified for the rear (also on sale, normally $79.)

Here is a quick video :

I was in a rush for the rear, i will probably re-do this video:

On a scale of easy for install, the fronts are a 3 out of 10. The rears are an 8 out of 10 (simply because the task of removing the housing is so difficult).

My only disappointment has been the threat of rain and downpours today, so I could not ride it. It sounds terrific in my Garage.

I also have an AMP that I may install. But does anyone know of the current/amp capacity of the battery?

The Alpine small formfactor brick AMP has a load up to 14amps. I think.
Sounds high.

Sopher,

Most Excellent! :2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs:

I knew I along with a couple of others were onto something! Great work...I was wondering how much the sound quality improved? Also, are the Polk dxi's new as I was steering towards the Polk db series speakers. I see both are marine certified and they have basically the same specs!

You feedback would be awesome...now I can stop gripping on the other thread! :yikes:

I have a RT with the Audio package, so it doesn't currently have the rear speakers. Does anyone happen to know if the wiring for the rears is normally installed just not used in cases like this?
Was hoping I could just buy some speakers to pop into place in the rear. (not holding my breath, figure the wiring is not there)

And thank you Sopher for the videos, very helpful.

Sopher,

Please give us some feedback once you get to ryde on the highway at speed regarding the sound and clarity of the Polk's you just installed. I went out and bought mine today and will put in soon!

Thanks...:D

And the results are:............................

OUTSTANDING!!! All this without and AMP! An amp would make these sound even better!:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Clearly a big improvement. On the highway, running at these speeds comping up from 4th gear into:
65mph, 5150rpm 5th gear............clear sound
75mph, 5550rpm 5th gear............clear sound
80mph, 6000rpm 5th gear............clear sound (Except for that damn 18wheeler that just wizzed by!):yikes:

Sources were tested for FM radio, XM Radio (Near CD Quality) and direct from an Ipod/Iphone.

Base and high tones equally great! Volume fader set to center.

YOU DA MAN!!!:congrats:

I knew I wasn't barking up the wrong tree when I started the other thread weeks ago. I been doing sound (audio/visual) reinforcement for 30+ years and have a huge amount of Audiophile systems both in my house, my business, and my other vehicles so I knew we could improve on our sound on the Spyders! My Valkyrie has the Polk db series speakers and I can hear them clearly at 85+ mph! Still can't believe that neither the BRP Dealer, BRP Customer or Technical Services had no clue as to the sizes of the stock speakers. :helpsmilie:

Well, looks like I am going to be installing my new set of Polk DXi's this weekend. :D

Thanks again Sopher for your initiative and getting this job done!:clap:

went to best buy today. they had the OTHER sizes on sale but the 4 and 5.25" models were full price :yikes:

what did you pay for your speakers onsale?

thanks

I meant to ask about that as well. The 5.25's were $89.99 and the 4.0's were $79.99. Did you have a coupon or other special deal? :helpsmilie:

Even though I had a Best Buy 10% plus my reward zone certificate, the speakers were already onsale, so the 10% could not be used.
I dont have my receipt in front of me, but I think they were already 10% off.
We had a special tax free weekend here in Taxachsetts last weekend... I bought two pairs of speakers, a GPS for the wife, and a clock radio/video picture frame.

My out the door price on the speakers I think were $67 and $57.

Oh, btw, I came across another test:
The famous Boston Big Dig tunnel, at morning rush; the sound is deafening in that tunnel. I cranked up the volume and I could still hear my music!

Mind you that the head unit is only at 18 or 22rms Watt system, and the Polks are rated at 45rms normally, they could use a better AMP.

The more I listen to my new speakers, the more I like the change for the better. Interstingly, the difference between ipod/iphone music directly connected vs. XM Radio Vs FM Radio is amazing.

I even went to far as to replace the speakers in my 2009 F150 too. I used Memphis PR Car Audio 6.5" coax speakers. Wow what a difference over stock! Not my next project is either an AMP on the Spyder or an AMP in the F150. I have the Alpine small brick unit.

Anything with more than one 3" speaker confuses an old goat like me, so I have a question for you guys that are more tuned in. You refer to the Polk DXi525 and DXi400 speakers as being marine certified, but when I look on the Best Buy site they are listed as "not waterproof". Are there different varieties? How do I make sure I get the right ones? Is Best Buy just as confused as I am? :helpsmilie:

If I am not mistaken, the Polk's, either DB series or DXi Series are the only major branded speakers to be certified as "Marine". This is my second set of Polk's as I have the DB on my Valkyrie and the new DXi's waiting to be installed on the RT-S. I had tried Sony and Pioneers in the Valk and they did not hold up. Glue could not handle the moisture from elements. No speaker is considered waterproof, even those infamous "shower radios" will tear up if submersed.

SpyderRider, can you tell me if there is any difference between the DP series and DXI series? They both have the exact same specs and I can get the DPs for around 70 to 90 dollars (both sets DP401 and DP521).
Thanks

Hobstopper,

From what my research has found is that the Polk DB and DXi series speakers have roughly the same sonic spec's and it appears the DXi are a newer version. The drivers (woofers) on the DB are a grey and the DXi a black composite material. Both series are listed as Marine Certified and on the Polk web site the DB series are listed as High Performance Car Speakers where as the DXi series are listed as High Performance Mobile Audio Marine/Car Speakers. I do know that the DB521/DB401 versus the DXi525/400 are roughly $20.00 less each (at SRP List on the Polk website), they are fairly close to the same prices at store level. Though I had originally ordered the DB series from a supplier through Amazon.com, I changed my mind and went to Best Buy like a few others and spent the extra amount to get the units immediately and as the DXi's appear to be a newer series/a darker color (won't show through Spyder grills), I went with them.

Now if we can get our daily heat temperatures down below 100+, I can get them installed.

Hope this helped provide you with the information you are looking for. ;)
