HOW TO MAKE THE TRUNK STAY OPEN

Eventually the rubber will flatten down and the trunk will not pop open. Post #18 is an easy and sure solution.

I went to Home Depot and Ace but no #155 spring at either place. I even had the exact dimensions with me in case the springs were not numbered. House Call mod doers said the factory mechanism couldn't be adjusted in mine for some reason. Somebody ought to sell the darn thing for $20.00 bucks on eBay and some fool will buy it. Just like this fool bought carbon fiber decals for the same amount plus shipping. Maybe I'll ask for a spring for xmas and somebody else can do the hunting....:gaah:

I was in lowes for something else and bought a 2pack of springs that was $4 and it fit perfectling over the pin. Just had to cut the spring in half

I was about to go hunt down Spring #155, but thought I'd try to adjust the trunk first.

Here's what worked for me:

1. Open trunk.
2. Loosened the nut, closest to the plastic hood, on the male end. (located on the inside of the hood)
3. Tightened the nut, furthest from the plastic hood, a 1/4 turn. Note, this nut is physically attached to the male end (post).
4. Closed trunk and tested opening w/key.
5. Repeated steps 3 & 4 until the latch popped the trunk.
6. Tighten the nut closest to the plastic hood to hold the set position in place.

For me, I needed to only tighten the post about 1/2 a turn. The trunk lid now pops open at the turn of the key.

Might work for others.

Yup, that is the first fix many of us did. As Rando pointed out, after time it will stop popping. Just go with the spring from the get go.

There is only ONE fix that will work 100% of the time...

Get the spring #155 from any ACE hardware or other small hardware store...home depot and lowe's will not have it!

Simply use silicone (not my choice) or loosen the more proximal nut, bend the spring a bit, and tighten the nuts again...

Presto, chango, you're done...never have to worry about the problem again...

It does NOT affect the trunk's resistance to water...trust me, I just rode in a major thunderstorm on Sunday and the trunk was the only thing that did NOT get wet!

No need to re-create the wheel...this fix is very easy and very practical...:thumbup::thumbup:

This mod works great and only cost me 50 cents! It should have been OEM! It fits perfectly down INSIDE so it's not visible like the other spring mods.
