• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. How soon did you change the rear tire? Mine is about at the indicator?

I got 15,000 miles out of mine. I never smoked it but rode some twistys to the point where the rear tire would step out. It could have gone a little further but I changed in anticipation of a trip.

I have 21,000 on the fronts and they look like they will go to 40,000.

Wow! How far into the center wear indicator were you before you changed it?

change rear tire

I am due for a new rear tire after 16000km (10000 mls ).dealer told me the cost of the tire is $330 aus and nearly $200 aus to take out the back wheel fit the tire and replace the back wheel. What is the cost of replacement in the U.S. Is it hard to take the wheel out? i am worried about lining up the sprockets and the write belt tension.Tire wear is in the centre of the tire, I use 25 psi pressure.

Greetings Henk.

Not that far if I remember correctly. I probably had two or three thousand miles left in the rear tire but I wanted a new one for a trip through the northwest. Good thing too because even with a new tire I was hydroplaning so badly in the rain that I thought something was wrong with my engine. One of the few times this bike has scared me. Going 70 uphill in the rain and having the rear tire unhook from the road is not a pleasant feeling.

The center of my rear tire wore down after only 5K miles. The outside of the tire still has plenty of tread. I run 28lbs so I don't think pressure is the issue. It sounds like others are having similar issues with the center wearing quicker. Maybe less pressure would help....

Thats odd that you haven't smoked the back tire at all and are that close to needing it replaced. I have almost a full tire left by looking at other new ones and only have about 1k less miles
Just replaced mine at 15,000, fronts look great !

Tire Wear

As a GENERAL rule, tread wear across the tire is a result of tire pressure. Higher pressure causes center tread wear-lower pressure causes outer tread wear. If you are carrying a heavier load, more pressure is required than with a lighter load. I weigh 180 and seldom carry a passanger and get even tread wear with 15lbs in the fronts and 20lb in the rear. The rear tire was replaced @ 12,000 with perhaps another 1,000 safe miles left. The fronts still look new.

milage

7,100mi and I roast it all the time! Was into all wear bars. My triumph rocket has rarely made it past 3K! Was 330dolla at stealership tax an all. lets see now, twice the milage, half the cost. I can live with that!

:agree:welcome if I get 10;000 to 13;000 on a rear tire I'm a happy camper :thumbup:was running on 20lbs but now keeping rear around 30lbs 20lbs on fronts :ani29:

Greg, just use common scense. I have gotten 28,000 miles out of a stock Yamaha RoyalStar Venture tire. Yes, it was a bit too much. I don't know how much I will get on the Spyder, but with my ultra conservative riding style it may be a record. My wife and I ride for the sheer pleasure of riding. For us, it's the miles and the scenery that matter. I don't intend on riding in the rain in such a manner as to invite hydro-plaining. I run 20 pounds in front and 30 in rear and I am using Ride-On Tire Sealer. I have about 6600 miles and almost to the wear marks. I will not even be concerned until I am well into 1/2 of the wear marks. My goal? 30,000 miles. We'll see...

I got 12,000 out of my first rear tire and it was SLICK when i had it changed (no tread left at all) I smoked it a few times and always ryde aggressively :D

15,000 to the wear mark

Wow! I'm at just about 8,800 miles now. And, the tread is now just about at the outside wear marks. And, I've never done burnouts, or ridden that aggressively. At least, I didn't think, I did. :)

Interesting. And, I keep the pressure at about 28psi in the rear.
