How long for break in & what Gas mileage should I expect after?

Hello all, I have a 2021 Spyder RTL with just over 200 miles on it. It seems the gas mileage is not very good, the guy at my dealership told me the break in period is automatic and is controlled by the bikes computer. My question is two parts.
How long (in mileage) can I expect the break in period to last? Also, will my gas mileage improve once the break in period is over?

Thanks for any help.

Can't specifically help with your questions; but, I have 2020 F3-T. After a few hundred miles (~1,000) I have leveled off at right at 40 mpg.

I drive a 2021 RTL. Right now it has 6,491 miles. The dealer-supplied first tank of gas gave me 40mpg using ECO mode at interstate speeds. Since then it has settled to a consistent 37-38mpg using 93 octane in Eco mode…driving the speed limit wherever, with twisties, but not racing to push the envelope. Recently I found one tank of gas fell to 33mpg after several days of cooler weather and me not checking the tire pressures before that ride…my bad. Before the subsequent ride I found the pressures to be a couple of psi lower than I normally run. Put the tires back up to 18 front cold and 28 rear cold. That did it.. mpg was 38.2 this last tank at the same driving style.

Wow! Those MPGs are way more than my '20 RT base with 19,000 miles gets. The best I've gotten was ~30MPG. I am a spirited rider in the twisties and frequently run the interstates at 75+. Haven't seen much difference in range using 87 or 91 octane. When I use the PV3 tune, mileage drops to ~26 MPG.

From 1000's of other posts about this ... the 1330 appears to have a longer " Break-in " period ( related to Gas mileage ) .... Mine gradually increased from 36 mph for the first 5000 mi to 39 mph at about 10,000 mi. ..... I know it seems odd but that's how it did ..... Mike

My 14 RT got 40 mpg on its first tank. As I became more comfortable with the machine and I got a little more froggy on the throttle, my mpg started going in the toilet. I was running faster and harder through the corners which makes the 1330 suck more and more fuel. I started getting 32/33 mpg. It certainly was not the spyder's fault. It all came from the twist in the wrist. The machine responds to the operator's control. Slow down in the corners, keep your cruising speed at around 3k rpm's, and slowly roll on the throttle when accelerating, and you'll get 40+ mpg easily. Also, the computer learns your style of riding and adjusts itself to that type of operation. I recently installed stage 2 and my first tank was 35 mpg. UGH My 4th tank came back up to 40 mpg after it learned my style of riding. I believe our spyders are smarter than some of us owners.

Guilty as charged but having a blast chasing 2-wheelers. The best MPGs I've gotten was ~34 staying below 55 for 50 miles. The PC helps defeat any hopes for high MPGs.

Our 2014 RTL get's 33 to 36 MPG most of the time. Best ever was 39 on a 60mph 100 mile ride. I'm fine with whatever it's getting.
Worry Less -- Ryde More! as they say!: yes:

I really could care less, bout fuelmileage, mpg's or anything else, I bought the Spyder for my pleasure, and if I have to fuel it up once a week, or twice a week, so be it.
I go by the words (prayers) of Peter Aawen, Drive more, Worry Less. I work hard, and also play hard.. don't wanna be upsetting anyone, but for me the spyder is a toy, a way to loose stress, and for the few dollars that it costs more, they are worth it to me.

Couldn’t agree more, Piratezz. I ride however the mood takes me, and when the gauge gets toward empty, I refuel. Fuel consumption is what it is, because I’m on the Spyder for pure enjoyment. :2thumbs:

My enjoyment is becoming more of a necessity these days as gas prices rise. It's now $35.00+ for one trip to town and back, in my truck.

At 5K the motor is pretty well broken in. Never paid any attention to break in and milage but now at 13K I'm getting about 38mpg on any octane, easy riding style.

I guess I’m using mine purely for pleasure as I now have just over 8K miles and I’ve never, no not ever, calculated the miles per gallon I’m getting with it. And when I was in the process of researching for purchase I was curious as to what mileage to expect but when I read around 30 mpg was kind of an average it did not change my mind or cause second thoughts on buying one. Still no regrets.

Operation During Break-In
A break-in period of 1 000 km (600 mi) is required for the vehicle. During the first 300 km (200 mi), avoid hard braking

BASIC PROCEDURES
Warning: New brakes and tires do not operate at their maximum efficiency until their break-in is completed. Braking, steering and VSS performance may be reduced, so use extra
caution. Brakes and tires take about 300 km (200 mi) of riding with frequent braking and steering to break-in. For riding with infrequent braking and steering, allow extra time to
break-in the brakes and tires.

During the first 1 000 km (600 mi): – Avoid full throttle acceleration. – Avoid prolonged riding maintaining constant RPM. – If the cooling fans operate continuously during stop and go traffic, pull over and shut off the engine to let it cool off or speed up to let air cool off the engine. After the break-in period, your vehicle should be inspected as per the Maintenance Schedule

I've reported this before ..... Knowing your average gas mileage is a lot more than MONEY ...... If you know what you average and it suddenly starts dropping ( the mpg's ) .... well that a sure sign that's " Something is Wrong " with the fuel system. ..... it may not be so severe that you could feel it in the performance area. ..... but Something has happened and it's NOT GOOD ..... Mike

There are so many factors in figuring accurate MPG that it's virtually a waste of time -- even though I've done it since day 1. The important thing to know is, yes, once broken in the mileage on a 1330 ACE engine should go up, but all those bloody factors will still be there. Over 7 1/2 years and 77,500+ miles I am averaging 37.1 mpg. The range of individual tank mpg runs from 28.3 when I was blowing along an interstate in western OK at 85 into a blow you off the bike headwind to 52.1 when I was cruising along enjoying the scenery out in CO.

Mpg

:lecturef_smilie:...Slow down and get more MPG.
My Tip: You get more 'Smile Miles' time, when you go at an easy pace.
Your Spyder and Your nickel. .....Enjoy the Ryde....
