• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. How does Mobile 1 4T effect SE6 thumb shift auto

Any 4 stroke motorcycle specific oil will be formulated for use in a wet clutch. Your Mobil1 4T should be fine. I would look to make sure it has the newest JASO rating of MA2. This is actually more for the Catalytic converter side of things but still..... It indicates a newer formulation of oil. Prob hard to find any MA/MA1 oil out there since I believe the change was made back around 2006.

39,000 miles with not one problem. 25,000 miles ryding 2 up. Am now also using it in my Daytona for the last 12,000 miles and not one problem. Make sure it is 4T motorcycle oil.

THUMB SHIFTER

I read several posts on clutch slippage on various oils. Does any of this effect the thumb shift SE6?
In one word .....NO ............ But this is if you are using oil that meets or exceeds BRP specs ..... Mike

Why does the title of this thread specify M1-4T ??

I've been riding for about 50 years and on the Internet almost as long and today is the FIRST time I have ever seen anyone claim that 4T has caused any clutch trouble.

You shouldn't get excited about everything you read in places like this.

Did I imply M1-4T caused a problem? It was just a question--calm down. I wasn't familiar between the manual shift oil use post & the SE6 thumb shift post. This is a learning forum.

With all the threads about oil on here I can't believe I've never seen it mentioned before. Not friendly to your wallet. You sure it's worth the $$ compared to Mobil or Amsoil?

Does not matter if SE or SM

Here is an exploded parts view of a SE6 clutch.

Notice that the clutches are almost identical and the the clutch packs are the same. So if the oil you choose is compatible with a SM6 clutch it is compatible with a SE6. The oil requirements for each is no different.

What you where reading about oil not being compatible with a semi trans. Goes back to the 998 engine. The clutch material chosen by BRP in that engine may not be compatible with a API rating of SM. That's why there is a warning in the owners manual. From what I can tell is that one or more additives allowed in that spec will damage the clutch. Specific oil brands may be rated SM, not contain that specific additive and will not harm the clutch. But how do you know for sure. Since there are so many oils available why take the risk. Out of that warning came the myth that it is because of the Semi trans and it's OK to use the wrong oil in a manual. That's not true. The clutch packs are identical in the 998 engine too. The SM oil warning is not in the manual for a model with 1330 engine.

I know a guy who mapped my ECU, became the 1st to enter the 6 sec 1/4 mi on a streetable bike--no wheelie bar. Ryan Schnitz Racing is in the Guinness Book of records for being the 1st to break into the 6 sec barrier at 6.90 sec 1/4 mi at 203 mph. Ryan said he uses regular good quality non synthetic oil. Of course he changes oil on a regular low mile/drag strip several runs. His Hayabusa runs on NOS in the 500 rwhp range. He gives the credit to his adjustable clutch. Hooking up on the track is key. Just info for thought.
