• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I am a little pissed off after paying $30,000 for the Spyder
I need to buy ELKA shocks.I understand about the seat but it is a preference
the shocks is a safety Issue. I'm on the highway and 18 wheeler is coming by I'm holding on for dear life
can someone please tell me how to adjust To shock to 5

Is this your first bike, because I'm not sure how much good shocks will do to eliminate draft from a 18 wheeler ??? Draft happens...... and the best thing to do is get around them as quickly as possible.

Last time i was on a bike was 30 years ago. NY an NJ some time u cannot get around the truck they are everywhere

Hey James, here's a link that may help you some

Have you read your manual, as it clearly tells you how to adjust your suspension in there. Here's the BEST link to info for NEW riders of Spyders that I've ever seen, may I suggest you take a look for yourself.http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...t-Do-s-and-Do-Nots-quot-for-new-Spyder-owners

One of the biggest mistakes new Spyder riders make, is trying to ride their Spyder like a 2 wheeler, and that just makes for one helluva frustrating experience. Let Go of the grips, the Spyders DPS (power steering) is very sensitive and a tight grip = Frustatration. BRP DID upgrade the front shocks from the 2010s in the very next model year, and most have commented that the upgraded shocks were WAY better than the 10s were. But for many, myself included, Elkas are just that much better in performance, comparing to stock, but the stocks aren't 'that' bad, IMHO. I hope you get the Spyder to handle like you like, and I think reading the manual and that link to the newbie thread will help you alot.

:congrats: on the New Ryde & :welcome:
This is the :firstplace: site on the WWW for ANYthing & EVERYthing Spyder related :2thumbs:

Hi James! (Jim?)
:welcome: What Dave (CyncySpyder) said was spot on! A tight grip makes the situation feel a lot worse than it is. Relax a bit, get your knees up against the tank and see if that helps.
The factory shocks do a pretty good job of providing a compliant ride. Elkas are a great replacement if you're looking to really sail through the corners; but are they a necessity? :dontknow:

James:

While Elkas are a great upgrade we have never added them to any of our Spyders (my wife and I are both on our second RT's) and have never been concerned about 18 wheelers. While it is true the trucks move the air around a lot, that affects the Spyder a whole lot less than any other bikes we have ridden.

Just lighten your grip and let the machine buffet in the wind. It isn't going to change direction or toss you off.

There is an old saying among horse people that problems with a rider having trouble with a mount is probably "10% horse and 90% rider". I would venture that the same saying applies to Spyder Ryders for the first months of riding.

Hang in there (gently).

Thanks guy. i really appreciate the response. I get it I am holding on to tight loosen up on The grip:yikes:.
Will shocks help on turns or curves. Will changing the settings to five on the shocks will help

Defensive driving

Seeing that my father was an MSF instructor back in the 70's, I am a big believer in defensive driving.

I believe in getting away from all the cars and trucks, even if that means exceeding the speed limit. If an 18 wheeler is driving 75. You may just have to drive faster. I would much rather drive 85 mph with all the cars and trucks 200 yards behind me than 70 mph and have the problem of evrybody trying to drive me off the road.

Makes sense but it may be prudent to back off to 70 and let them get well ahead than racing ahead to the next group of vehicles.

I just got back from Englishtown flea market. After changing The shock to setting 5
I love my spyder again it is like night and Day
