• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

How do I replace 2020 RTL rear trunk lid shock/lift cylinder? Lid won't stay up!

I just bought a 2020 RTL and it does not have the shock on the rear trunk lid. Is there supposed to be one installed?

IT's a 2020 not a 2012 or 16.

If it has the factory top case, it has one, it's just not visible and hard to get to. Standing behind the bike it is on the right-hand side (passenger side) on the right side of the hinge arm.

Thanks. I just went out and checked. Didn't see it, but It's also 108 degrees and I was not going to stand there very long. Will check real hard in the morning.

I found the strut/shock or whatever it is called. It is not strong enough to hold the lid open. Anyone found a stronger strut that I don't have to take 2nd mortgage to buy?
This is for my 2020 RT limited.

Dude....I can send you info on a lil device that I attribute to NorwegianRT....It's a 3d printed device (I paid $14.90 shipped to my house) that goes on the opposite side of the strut to hold up the trunk. It falls into place when lifted then you simply knock it back in ....you'll need a nut and bolt that are laying around in your garage. Norwegian RT sent me the file and I contacted a 3d internet company.

Go to McMaster Carr website and do a search there. They have all different kinds and are reasonable and shipping is very fast.

Won't work on a 2020+.

Replacing the gas strut is pretty easy on the 2020. Takes about 10 minutes. You remove the two screws inside the trunk that hold the backrest on. (Circled in red) The backrest lifts straight up. Once you get that off, the strut is easy to get to. You have to remove the bottom 1st then the lid will swing up high enough to get to the upper bolt. I am going to try adding a spring that fits over the strut.
