• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

How do I disassemble the RT mirror housings?

I have a question that is related to this. I took my mirrors off in the process of installing new headlight bulbs and I am not satisfied that they are reinstalled correctly. The left side snapped right into place, but the left side doesn't seem to have tightened up on the one of the mounting screws. Anybody have any suggestions? :gaah:

use nylon string, like grading string, and your shop vac ,put the shop vac on your mirror where the wires come out, you will be amazed at how fast that string flys thru the mirror housing, then attach the led wires to the string and pull them thru. sorry I forgot to say you still have to drill the hole where you want it

mirror disassembly

Phil:

I would like to read the entire section in the Shop Manual, since I broke two tabs "gently prying apart" the covers from one mirror on my 2014 RT-Limited (chrome garnish cover).
Before I do any more damage on the second mirror, I want to read a little more to arm myself with knowledge.

I have the "Green Book" electronic PDF and in the "Chassis" section where all the body panels are described, I find no mention of mirror dis-assembly. Searching various related words (e.g. "mirror cover removal") hasn't been productive.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Pete

It is probably very satisfying being on the mirror assembly line at BRP.
Click, click, click and there, the mirror is quickly assembled.

For the owner, though, pulling them apart again is sort of counter-intuitive in the way you have to poke around blind with a screwdriver and prise the thing apart like a stubborn shellfish. Breaking off those unforgiving tabs is way too easy. You will never be ready for that to happen but chances are it will. I speak from experience, of course.

Opening them up can be achieved if you have a lot of time on your hands and you are overloaded with the patience of the Man in the Moon but in my view it would have made a much easier and quicker job to have had some neat little screws to undo instead of fiddling about with those pesky break-off tabs.

Just saying... :(

Having had the same experience, I will say that you gave an excellent description of the patience required for this process. (I didn't have enough when I attempted it.) :opps:

I bought the TricLED turn signals for the mirrors. The instructions are very good and you do not have to take apart the mirror. Once you have the mirror assembly detached from the bike, you simply drill a small hole and run the wire behind the mirror and fish it out. Was pretty easy and they work great.
