• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

How about a poll for the steering recall?

The service manager tried to do my SE5, he got it wrong and I got error messages ( Check DPS). My bike stayed in the shop for a week till the main techie got back from vacation and fixed it right. Steers better now, seems to run OK. Not enough time to check fuel mileage yet.

I had the recall done on Tuesday. I have only put about 100 miles on it since the recall. Mine is an SE-5. I think it may be downshifting smoother/different.
I had no problems before the recall and so far none after.

Can someone explain how manual shifting on an SM5 can be improved with a software update? I don't get it.

Me neither but HDX says it is better - he says it doesn't clunk as much. I sort of liked the clunk - reminded me of my old softail.

I'll jump into this group. I don't know how but my SM5 seems to shift better after the software upgrade. I'm guessing its because the engine is running better, smoother or whatever.

Had mine done last Thursday. Steering is a bit more definite, less 'twitchy' around center. All in all, I'm very happy with the change.

Surprisingly (and i've herad this elsewhere too) my gas mileage has improved dramatically. Rode 200 miles on Sunday, 2 up, with over the max weight limit (as defined by CanAm) and got 32mpg in hard riding. Under same conditions several times previously, I got only 25mpg. I have read in a post on this forum that they also changed the fuel management curve in the software update. So far, fom my limited mileage, it seems to be working! I'll report on any improvements I see in mileage while riding single as they become available.
Test drove my spyder before I bought it and the steering was "twitchy" this was before the recall was completed. After I received it,(recall done) it now seems more stable and responds great.

I had the recall update today.[8-7] I don't know how long it took - 'cause the owner took me to lunch. It is 60 miles to my dealership. On the ryde home, I noticed NO difference is steering, idle was a little rough at first, but a blip of throttle cured that. My spyder still rydes GREAT:ohyea:

Just got back in from my Conroe dealer. Went for an oil/filter change and the recall fix. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but they had to replace my engine cluster. I emiled them the "heads up" that Lamount pointed out concerning the laptop/ battery issue, but I'm not sure they follwed his advice. At this point, the engine does seem to run a little rougher then it did primarily between 50 and 55 mph. It does seem to corner and turn better. In any event, if the rough engine continues I'll take it back in for them to look at it.

Had mine done on Monday. The steering is improved at low speed. I notice no difference at speed which is to be expected.
The shifting seems unchanged.( It's always shifted smoothly except when you let it downshift into first by itself and then there's a small jerk) I'm going to add the ground wire to the coil this weekend and see if that makes a difference.
Didn't use to have a surge but now notice a slight surge at about 5000 rpm.
It hesitates briefly now as you roll on the throttle, it's subtle but that didn't use to be there.
There is also the occasional pop from the exhaust as you decelerate.
I have no performance mods but may have to consider the Juice Box as I think that it's running just a little too lean. I may try a colder plug first just to see if that helps.:dontknow:

I watched as they did the firmware flash. There are several spots where a warning message pops up and rather than hit either choice (Ignore, Cancel) if you just wait it goes away on its own. The mechanic said that if you hit either choice you've just screwed it up.:yikes: One of those pops up right after the cluster update.
As my mechanic said hit nothing but a "YES" and you'll be Ok.
The last thing that happens is an error code "DPS failure", clear it and then reset the torque sensor and reboot and then there will be no errors and you're good to go.

had updats dune and stering is great back fires when let gass off or down shifting what should i look at :helpsmilie:

Remmos took my :spyder2: in to the dealer last week while I was out of town. I rode it yesterday for the first time, steers easiers and shifts better. :2thumbs:

Finally got to ride mine last night after the update. I agree w/ HDX - steering is better (smoother?) and it shifts better - less effort. So far so good (knock on wood).

Called Xtreme Machines in Millstone NJ two times to ask about DPS recall, both times they put me on hold to service dept. for over 20 min. So I called East Coast Cycle Center in Bensalem Pa.They did the up grade in less time then I was on hold with Millstone:dontknow:. Anyway definite improvment in :ani29: steering, also seems to run better, used to sputter on first take off,no more so far. richie
