HOT ryde today

Mod Monster
69 days over 100 here in East Texas.

I had a meeting in the 'country' with our general contractor for our office building at about 3pm so I came home and switched to DARTH and rode out to their office, about 30 miles. Yup... 106 showing on my temp guage, but I did it. I had all my gear on and honestly, it felt ok. I only had 4 lights the entire time so the breeze really kept me moderately comfortable. Even came through a small rain shower!!!! Significance is that we have severe drought here. ANY rain is welcome.

I took the long way home (suggested route from my cycle ridin GC buddies) and it was a blast. My birthday present to myself!

I WILL be getting some sort of heat management for the right side. For sure. I know everyone had opinions and I've read enough that tells me that none of them will over heat the bike, which was my big concern. So---- is it SpyderPops + Baker that's the winner??

Happy Birthday Phil!
Check out my combo heat solution in "stevemac mods". I rate it very highly. Works very well for me. Just finished a 1200 mile round trip that included several " stop go stop" traffic situations. One of which allowed me to move only a few hundred feet in 30 plus minutes. My RT never went above mid point on gauge, despite ambient of 100+ degrees in one instance.

Hope you had a great day bro!!

Here in central Texas they are telling us we have had 73 days over a 100 degrees ... and to look for it to continue ... I ryde daily to work on the Spyder go to work around noon and come home around 10ish .... the nite ryde is comfortable but the noon ryde is a tad warm ....thinking of taking the splash pans off the Spyder to help with heat and maybe the fan can as well .... but man o man do I love to ryde the Spyder

I live in the cooler part of Texas. (30 miles NW of San Antonio on IH10W) We have only had 50 days of 100....we have nice breakfast ride coming up for this Saturday and it is only forecast to be 107...

:spyder2:

Happy Birthday!!

I don't know how you folks down south do it.... I was dying up here with upper 90's and a couple of 100 degree days!!! :yikes:

Quit complaining guys. It has been 115 or better here for several days. It is now 7:35 pm and it is 109.6 on my patio. The high here today was 118.4 and it is suppose to stay this way for a few more days. Hopefully we get a cold spell and it is only a high of 110 by the weekend. Needless to say, I have not been riding for a few days.:(

Hottest summer I can remember EVER. We live in Bronte, 30 miles north of San Angelo, Texas and the weather report last night said that yesterday, 8/24/2011, was San Angelo's 86th day of 100 degrees or above this year. The old record of 60 days of 100 or more has been demolished and there's no relief in sight. We rode for a while Tuesday afternoon and stopped to eat supper in Ballinger, Texas. When we left the cafe about 6:30 PM the ambient temperature showing on the RT was 118 degrees. Of course it wasn't really that hot. The Spyder was sitting in the sun with no air movement around it so the heat just built up. Still, that's the hottest temperature I've seen on it. After riding a few miles, it cooled down to a much more managable 107 degrees and by the time we got home it was down to 100. Fall will be welcome.

I'm glad I don't live in Death Valley anymore. 123 today

The hottest I've driven to work (45 miles one way) has been 110. I've got the spyderpops mods on my Spyder and got up to 5 bars, but it would waiver between 4 and 5 bars. Mainly on the freeway, with only a few stops along the way, so that helps out a lot... BTW, I wear my mesh jacket, gloves and a 3/4 brainbucket with face shield. It's hot, but it's also hard to pass up the opportunity to ryde ;)

Thanks for all the B'day wishes. It was a great day.

Steve- I think I'll take the dual approach like you did on the heat management. I may holler if I get stuck on installing the fan can.

Phil,
I have the SpyderPops blocker and Baker airwings on now. Almost all the heat is gone. Just orderd the cat shields from spyderpops. Goining on a 3000 mile vacation trip in September. I will let you know how it handles the heat. Looking forward to seeing you in Cuba again.

Hot Ryde

Phil,
Belated Happy Birthday! Hope your day went well! It's so difficult to wear full gear and try to ride in this scorching East Texas heat. Maybe it will break soon.
Regards,
Reese
