Hot ride in between Frederick and Raleigh

I put in a little over 700 miles going back and forth from Frederick, Md to Raleigh, NC. On Sunday and Tuesday, I Plotted out a way in Rever to avoid towns, highways, Lake Anna traffic on 522, and 15 for as long as possible.

On Sunday, I stopped at the Arby's for lunch in Zion Crossroads to cool off and rehydrate. On the way back, I left before the sun came up and got home a little before noon. I stopped at a gas station and got some homemade country ham biscuits. God, I love those freshly made!

Definitely a brave individual. I live in Apex, and it has been too hot for me to ride. I am hoping to be able to get out for an early morning ride on Sunday, but with a forecast of 98, not sure that will happen.

I ride up town in the mornings around 6:30 to work out, then to Panera’s for breakfast. The asphalt temps are getting warm by the time I head home.

That's the reason I chose that route, I got stuck on 95 in a jam just before Savannah a couple of years ago when I was visiting in Georgia. I swore off Rt. 95 in the heat forever after that.

There was one other brave individual on a crotch rocket who was keeping up with me, even though I was doing triple digits on 50 once I got South of Creedmoor. I was just ready to get off the road and not talk to anyone. I appreciated his company, but I just wanted to get out of the heat by the time I got down there!

Pulled the F3 out yesterday evening about 8 for a quick 20 mile ride around the block. About 1/2 mile in, there was a huge lightning strike just ahead of me. I made a quick U-turn and came back home. I was determined to get a ride in, so I got up at 6 this morning and rode the Spyder to the gym and back. Only about 7 miles total, but a ride is a ride.

Plan on riding some this weekend and will plan a ride for the 4th of July weekend.

Greetings from Wisconsin, where it gets hot and humid, but nothing like Virginia. My sister's family lived there a few years ago. While visiting, we made the trip up to Fredericksburg, as some of the Civil War battlefields are on my Bucket List. We made it to "the wall" and around the town and surrounding area, but man, was it hot!!! This Badger was sweating like Satan during Sunday Service. It makes me wonder how people lived there before air conditioning. As a trade-off, some of that Carolina BBQ is some of the best I've ever had. Save some for the rest of us!

Yea the heat index with the humidity was about 109 going down, and by the time I got back it was 116. When I filled up at the sheetz in Garner, the sun was just coming up and it was 82, and I was already soaked in sweat from the humidity.
