• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Honda Trike

I rode a Honda trike for 8 years before the Spyder. It's only seriously different if you're out pushing over 80% for instance. The trike won't steer as quickly as the Spyder but won't do anything that will surprise her.

The Hell it won't! You are right that gently putzing around LIKELY no problem but that ain't good enough for my wife. Throw in an emergency stop or get surprised by decreasing radius downhill turn with a reverse crown thrown in to make it really special and your day will be ruined.
Going from a trike to a Spyder is in no way the same as going from a Spyder to a trike. The Spyder has the nanny, the spyder has a ABS brake system, the trike has two separate brake systems and MOST of your braking power comes from the rear. the Spyder is WAY more stable with the reverse geometry.

:agree:Also if your wife is uncomfortable riding any thing but a Spyder,
You'll be hard pressed to enjoy the ride' what with looking in your mirrors all the while checking to see if shes still behind you. nojoke

Wow!

More that you expected RJB? Whether she could safely make the transition between different styles of trikes pretty much depends on her. Does she have a lot of experience on her Spyder? 10 or 15 thousand miles or just of couple of thousand. Is she an aggressive rider, or just an easy crusin' type? I could probably think of quite a few more questions but you get the idea.
How do any of us ever learn to do something different?
Be carefull of advice from those who have never ridden conventional trikes, be just as carefull of advice of those who have never ridden reverse trikes!

I have ridden both...they are not the same! It can be done, but I agree that she needs to be educated in the differences, practice, then make her own decision. Remember, the safety systems that she is used to, don't exist on a trike conversion.

:agree: one hundred percent with this assessment; havng also ridden both designs... She might be able to enjoy the irde, but it would probably take her a couple of hundred miles to get the hang of how it differs from the Spyder.

With all the time spent debating this issue you could have ridden to Utah on your bikes by now--- :roflblack:

Something you might want to really consider--- would be a great trip.

Funny - I was thinking the same thing!! :roflblack: There is no machine like yer own!

RJB,

I've owned two Honda Valkyrie trikes before I got my Spyder. Trikes are unwieldy beasts...subpar brakes for the most part, oversteer. Spyders, by most measures, are vastly superior in performance, safety, etc.

I didn't read every post here (I'm on the fly) but I noticed that Easy or Eagle Rider, the rental arm of HD, now rents Spyders.

My wife and I made this trip in October. Loved it we did all the major parks. I noticed in the town of Moab there was a motorsport dealer that rents spyders. I don't remember the name but I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find. Enjoy the trip.

I passed through Moab a few nights ago and there is a business w/ an add banner for RS rentals, They were on the main drag. Using my best google skills, the best info I can find is that they are across from the Big Horn Lodge
http://www.moabbighorn.com/ maybe a quick call to the front desk would shed more info.

Zion and Bryce Canyon

You are going to run into some different handling characteristics with the trike compared to the Spyder. The experts will soon chime in on this one. Congrats on your decision to ride Utah. That is one pretty place to ride on a cycle. Zion, Bryce, Cedar Breaks---etc. Have done these in my car-- but still waiting to do it via Spyder. I have done the Badlands & Devils, Tower,Wyoming on two wheels--it was pretty awesome.

Old Dog here. We went on an 8600 mile tour of the Western states last year. We loved it so much we're going back out this summer.I took over 1000 pictures. These two shots are from Bryce Canyon and Zion. My goal is to do it on an RT. I hope to have one in the next two years if all goes as planned.
