Home after Spyderfest 2013...13624 miles from home back to home

Another chapter in my travel log has got an ending. It was a wonderful trip..starting from home with the temp at 28' on April 15 and ending with 85' degree when I rode back in on Friday, June 7. The ryding is always the BESTEST part for me...a very close second bestest is the awesome people that come into my life .. Spyderlovers top that list..Our awesome country and her history. The beauty that nature creates from the powdered sand of Destin to the Arches in Utah and the Mountains and streams in Montana and everything in between.
Ms Spyder has been having a few issues that create a hiccup but the challenge is there and I'm making a game plan. First I had called ahead and scheduled a service at my dealer in Spokane..only to discover that I was the very last Spyder that my tech was working on...the business has closed and he has moved on to a new career. Now was I overjoyed at having to find a new competent tech? NO way...but I know from here that the tech is key to a happy Spyder and a happy Spyder makes this ryder very happy. A dealership in CDA, ID has taken on the Spyder..now even though it would put me another hour from home..my kids live there so I'm thinking..hmmm let's check Specialty out. They may be good or even great but when I did my interview I came away thinking :yikes: (are you kidding me???). I mentioned that Bruce had basically patched her and she was good for another 2-5k miles before a meltdown occurs. And I would like to get in for diagnosis...etc. His answer was I can schedule you for June 27 but you will need to leave machine for at least a week!!!! That's when I said thank you very much for your time. And my brain was saying to self....run, run, run...Bruce, my how dare he change careers tech..had shared that Speciality really worked hard to hire him but he wanted to do something new..he did mention one dealer to stay totally away from and one that I should check out. I asked him what he based his recommendations on: He said how they assemble the Spyder out of the crate. He had gotten several machines from both dealers..dealer NO he said they had to literally rebuild 3 machines...Dealer YES he said there work was flawless. So I did not waste a phone call on Dealer NO...but called dealer YES and we talked for over an hour...he said wow that is a long way to ryde for service...I responded only 15 miles further than what I have been doing for 3 years (4+ hrs each way)...but my ryde to Spokane was over backroads and wheat country. Now my ryde to Enumclaw will be freeway..city traffic and 2 mountain passes. I told him we will have to get a schedule because those passes are not Spyder ready from end Sept to Mid May. Bottom line I will ryde over next Friday...he said he wanted his Spyder guru on Ms Spyder...being me I was very straight forward and said here is what I am like to deal with...when I got to the line of don't even think about screwing me without a kiss...he about choked to death and said lady I already got that figured out. I shared I was sooooo not mechanical that they could pull stuff on me and I would gladly hand the plastic but I would eventually know the truth. Told him the truth will always win out...good work gets lots of mileage...poor work gets more mileage!!!
So looks like a trip to high traffic area is going to become a must do...one of those things in life..not what I wanted...but what I am willing to do...dang just hate that stuff I can't control!!!!Now isn't that a laugh...I am willing to drive Ms Spyder down 6th Ave New York City and have an adrenalin rush...then I start whining cause I gotta drive over 2 beautiful mountain passes and then ... oh well whine, whine, whine...:ohyea:
Bob D asked how long before my throttle hand would start to twitch...well took a couple hours to debug her...but that was it...I never drive my truck when I can take Ms Spyder..next longer trip will be a first time group ryde that has been organized for the 21st and 22nd...then on July 5 I leave for 10 days down the WA, OR, CA coast..yep gotta flex those throttle muscles!!!

Have you considered adopting Bruce ? (Tell him to include his tools in the transaction! :D)
Glad to hear that you made it back to the home base!
You don't drive your truck much; I put fuel in mine this morning for the first time since before SpyderFest! (April 19th)

Glad to hear you're home and ready to ryde some more! Sorry to hear about losing your tech...what a bummer!
The weather around here finally let up enough for me to ryde back & forth to work the entire last week...even if that only amounted to a measly 250 miles or so...but it gets exciting on the highway, dodging 6000 lb SUV's with drivers on cell phones! (Gotta love that Baja Ron anti-sway bar!) :ohyea:

Karyl, I hope you find a good replacement tech for Ms.Spyder....and keep on Rydin' the Dream!!:yes:

Now there is a trip...............

Wow.....................13624 miles! Murpybrown how many miles does Ms Spyder have on her now?

It's too bad that you're on the "wrong" side of the Country ... I've got an "Aaron" back here, that I'd be willing to share, who is pretty darn good at the magic that he pulls with my bike!

Trip

Glad you made it back safely. Thats allot of miles on Ms. Spyder but I know you enjoyed every minute of it. Oh, by the way..........would you like a little cheese with all that "whine".;)

Murphy B, you're simply the best. And to ride with you must be a real pleasure for those fortunate enough to have had the experience.

Bless ya Gal!

:firstplace:

:yikes:, sounds like a trip dreams are made off...follwing your exploits it sounds like you had a blast..

With two kids through collage and one still to go, retirement seems a far off place in my 80's

:agree:

Enjoy every mile. All other things will work out. Life is tooooo short to sweat the details. 28 years as a funeral director teaches many lessons. And it is great to read of someone enjoying life and living the dream.. Go For It!

May God Bless You on your Journey..

Great news..!!

glad your home safe..loved the picture as you got there really awesome view. I really enjoyed traveling with you even if only in an arm chair. I'm sure you will find someone you will be comfortable with and trust ms spyder to. Well rest up for it sounds like you will be off once again in the near future...!! :ohyea:

Yep made him an offer I couldn't believe he didn't accept!!!

Have you considered adopting Bruce ? (Tell him to include his tools in the transaction! :D)

his own bedroom, gourmet coffee and use of my $6.99 tool set I got from Home Depot bin sale 15 years ago...I was just so surprised when his response was a grin!!! :roflblack:

My Inspiration

Karyl,

You are my inspiration. I am serious when I said I would like to do some of this with you. I am going to be saving my money so I can join you, maybe next year.

You are such a special lady and I marvel at how many miles you have completed by yourself and the things you have seen. So glad you are home safe and sound and I know your Spyder will be just fine. If not we know where you can always drive to:firstplace: dealer over all.:yes:

Take care and keep in touch! Love you

Glad to hear you are home but what a bummer about your service tech. Sounds like you are off to a good start with the new dealer and he understands what he is up against. I don't think you have had too many people take advantage of you and live to tell about it!

Ms. Spyder is about to enter uncharted territory going over the 60,000 miles mark on the RT. I hope she ages as beautifully as you.

Great Dealer

I'm tickled your old tech recommended my dealer. So glad to hear he thought they put together the new spyders flawlessly. I purchased my 2011 RTs SE5 from the Enumclaw dealer a year ago May. If not for the throttle body issue, (not a dealer caused problem), mine has purred along problem free. They are a family run business for over 30years, and their Spyder tech is great. And you couldn't ask for a more beautiful ride, right past Mt. Rainier. Hope it goes the way you are expecting, I'm sure it will. Please post the outcome since I have a vested interest in how you were treated.
