• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Holy Smokes!!!

One reason I would vote for loud pipes over a horn to save a biker from a crash is that the loud pipes are heard coming constantly. A horn is only used just before something bad can happen. If someone was riding next to you, they would be hearing those pipes and be aware of you. If you had quiet pipes and they started to wander over into your lane, you tooting the horn may startle them into a steering wheel jerk that might be towards the wrong direction. :yikes:

Plus the loud pipes work even if you don't see a potential danger, like someone not paying attention and doing something stupid behind you or coming to a blind intersection.

I have to admit, I often hear them GOING but not coming. Now if we could get the exhaust to face the direction we are going instead of came from I might get some loud pipes, but in the mean time....I'll use the horn, becase it faces the right way (usually) any way.
I respect everyones opinion though and as long as I am not BEHIND someone with loud pipes I'm OK with them!

True. Even though I understand the thinking behind the "Loud pipes save lives" motto, I changed back to the stock exhaust from the Hindle a few months ago. I prefer the quieter exhaust and I try to be the most defensive rider on the road.

Loud motorcycle exhaust pipes save lives! :2thumbs:
BLUE ANGELS' F/A-18s on afterburner. Just like loud bikes you can hear them AS and AFTER they pass you be seldom do you hear them coming. Since I ride in areas (SW Escambia County FL) where they spend much of the year training I often seen the effects as they startel drivers (and Riders) as they pass over head. The effect is the same with the RUBies and the few 1%s with their loud pipes. Seldom, unless it is a crossing situation from a side road, will I ever hear them comming before they are right on me. Meeting loud bikes head on or having them passing only when the are right with you will you notice them. A little more when meeting them but almost never when they overtake a person will they be heard until they open the throttle to pass. This goes for bikes I have owned, the Spyder, and while in the Subaru, just don't hear them coming, only going!

Now off the bike I can easily keep track of many of them around this end of the county. I can tell you just about how far up Blue Angel or Lillian Highway a rider has gotton for several miles on a still day. On the hill at the Alabama farm I can here some bikes and other drivers when they turn off DR-32 on to CR-87 eight miles from us but won't hear them coming up behind me as we dip up and down the little hills on the road.

Okay Guys,
I can't go with the Loud Pipes theory and this is why. For years I have driven an ambulance. We have lights, sirens and an airhorn. Guess what, people still don't hear or see me. They have their radio on their window up the cell phone in the ear and they are in their own little world. Unsafe driver are just unsafe drivers, period. We have a saying in EMS, "Stupid people are my job security." If someone is not paying attention, it doesn't matter how loud your pipes are, they are not going to notice you.

Quite right, Deb. It is for the same reason that people drive their vehicles in front of railway trains without seeing or hearing them. :yikes:

Just how loud is the bark??

Did gaskets come with the kit?

This exhaust does not use a gasket, but the band clamp seems to be tight enough to seal it very well. It is very well made with tight tolerances, so I imagine that helps it seal well.:2thumbs:

Looks Sweeeeet

Here's a closer pic that shows the carbon band a little more clearly.

Thanks for the pic:thumbup:. Looks Sweeeeet! That's what I want:2thumbs:. Lose the yellow sticker though (IMHO) I love the carbon fiber covering the top of the pipe as well.

:agree: Right on Scotty. Loud pipes lose rights - we may like the way they sound, but please don't play the "safety" card. That dog just don't hunt.

+1 Because of loud pipes there has been much reactionary legislation. In many states you can't even put anything but an OEM exhaust on without breaking the law. It does not matter if the replacement pipe is louder than OEM or not. Makes it impossible for anyone with classic and vintage bikes to keep them on the road legally. You can't drive your motortcycle to your home if you live in many communities. These are only a couple of examples of real world loss of rights because of loud pipes; there are many more. I love the sound of a free flowing exhaust personally, but my neighbors don't. The few can only impose their will on the many for so long before the many take action. just MHO

I am still a quite surprised that the lawyers who have obviously had a major say in the design of the Spyder would even let BRP sell and dealers install the Hindle which has stamped right on it that it is not legal for street use and violates EPA rules.
