• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

hmm - oil on the drain plug! Anyone else seen this?

For both engine oil and gearbox.

Are you stating that the two crush washers for the trans are the same size as the two for the engine?
If so, handy info.

The gearbox has 4 plugs:
Plastic filler plug with o-ring - 15 mm socket - front of trans
Level check plug - 10 mm socket / T30 Torx - rear of trans, M8
M16x1.5 plug over spring and index pin- 8 mm hex bit (Allen) - front of trans DO NOT REMOVE FOR FLUID SERVICE
Drain plug - 17 mm socket, bottom of trans, M18

The engine magnetic drain is M18 x 1.5 with 17 mm head, using 18 mm aluminum crush washer
The engine small drain is M8 with 10 mm head, using 8 mm copper crush washer

Attached engine drain plug photo from page 102, 2019 Ryker manual

I was not aware of the "8mm head trans drain plug" in your #2 picture. That one is different. But comparing part numbers on the Cheapcycleparts web the others are the same
GEARBOX #15 & 21 seals, The drain plugs are #16 & #22 https://www.cheapcycleparts.com/oemparts/a/cam/5c2f776287a8661634626b81/gearbox-housing-900-ace to
ENGINE #22 & 24 seals. The drain plugs are #23 & #25 https://www.cheapcycleparts.com/oem...61634626b78/engine-lubrication-system-900-ace
(#15 is the oil canister lid o-ring)
I have ordered these plus oil filter and used all on engine...no problems. I have checked gearbox level and replaced the crush washer...no problems.

Thanks for the two links. No doubt engine and trans use same crush washers.

The part numbers are the same as dealer provided:

420950141 appears to be the 8 mm copper for $1.99 at cheapcycleparts.com, $2.86 at Rancho Power Sports

420552280 appears to be the 18 mm aluminum for $3.39 at cheapcycleparts.com, $5.50 at Rancho Power Sports

O'Reilly Auto stocks (in bulk, box of 15) Dorman 095-016 18 mm ID aluminum crush washers for $0.69 each. They are thicker and larger OD, but will check if usable when changing oil in a couple weeks. If not, factory ones are at hand.

The trans drain takes an 8 mm Allen wrench, but I did not know the thread size.

As far as "Drain plug" goes are you looking at #22 on bottom side of housing or #20 (2) located on lower front side and right side of housing. Behind these are springs and INDEX pins. I would not trust myself touching these. Funny thing is, on the right side of housing (facing rear of Ryker) I only have a dry tapped hole with what looks like a couple light burrs from tapping. The front one has a blue ink mark on it for reference? IS YOURS THE SAME WAY? I have a 900 Rally build date 10/2018. The Operators Guide does not mention anything about draining oil out of #20 plug area.

Thanks for the education on 22 vs 20. AGE 73 not too old to learn/receive correction.

I will need to correct my maintenance photos, as 20 (M16) appeared to be the drain, whereas 22 is the M18 drain.

I have not yet had my Ryker on ramps for an oil change, so no photos of underside.

Does the actual trans drain on the bottom have a 17 mm hex, same as large drain on engine?

I just got back inside. I went out and put a my 17mm hex socket on both drain plugs, so YES they are the same.
By the way I'll be 68 yrs. young? July 31. I was in QC mechanical inspection (Hydraulic Pumps, Ball Screw/nut manufacturing) all my working career. And I tell you what, when I first looked at that exploded view of that gear case is was doosy:hun: to make heads or tails out of,still is. I'm still wondering if you only have a tapped hole at drain plug #20 location on rear, just below upper right corner in screen shot (towards back wheel) like mine?

#20 on rear trans casing is the same M16 (8 mm Allen head) as the front (which I mistook for drain).
Not seen on right photo, but seen on left.
Is that what you are referencing?
If so, no rear index pin on your trans?

I went out and looked again. This time you have the honors of correcting me. Yes, I do have it. Thank goodness. I saw a "boss" that is milled down and tapped that was near that general area and stopped looking any further. It is tucked back in there isn't it. The tapped hole maybe (I'll assume) was used on assembly line for lifting with small overhead crane. Nope, we sure aren't young Bucks any more!

looked underneath again and all over the engine.no sign of any leaks.the oil hasn't been changed yet.and drain washers are cheap.why chance annealing one and have it split.but that's just me.
