There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. HJC IS-Max Flip Face Helmet...

What is the difference between the 16 and the max? I have a HJC AC-12, I think it is...not a bad helmet, but it is a little noisy...does this helmet keep things a bit more quiet yet allow for some ventilation?

Hey Bone Crusher, when riding I can feel the air moving over my head from the front vents. Closing the top vent makes this go away, so it would seem the tops vents actually work !

Personally I don't think it is very noisy.

go to: http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/hjc/is-max/ for a full review. This review is what got me to buy the Is-Max over the Cy-Max II. talks about the changes from the other HJCs.

I also notice a definite difference when the chin vent is open vs. closed as well.

So, with the max, the whole thing flips up whereas with the 16, only the face shield moves? I'm trying to figure out the advantages of each...my HJC is full face with only a shield that moves...if I'm not wearing my contacts, I have to put on my glasses after raising up the plastic...

I also just bought an IS-33 have not tried it yet - picked it up for the wife. i conficated her CL-MAX after mine broke. She has been in KC, MO. working so I had her helmet to fall back on. she come home for a visit this weekend so I will get her review on the IS-33.
I won a CL-MAX in a raffle, (any size, mine is small). I wasn't sure about "full face" because the last one I had in 1970 was a Bell and it was H-E-A-V-Y. I had been wearing 3/4 helmets since then. I am very pleased with the HJC CL-MAX. it is quite, warm in the cooler weather, not too heavy and seems to be pretty well ventilated for the warmer weather. I've only worn it up to 26°C (today!) 79°F. We'll see how it handles in the 80's and 90's.
I'll follow the thread and perhaps get something a little lighter and perhaps better air flow as some have indicated.
Thanks for sharing your experience

I was looking at the IS-16 and IS-Max...I like the IS-16 as I can get it with a pattern on it...I'm not too big on single color helmets...the IS-16 comes in a 'Scratch' pattern in both yellow, red, and black (also blue)...all the colors will match the Spyders and the Scratch pattern is a lot nicer than the single colors, IMHO...

The price is the same...I have a gift certificate left over from newenough that I've had for some time...so, I can get the helmet really cheap....

Before I order, is there any real reason to get the Max over the 16? Is there any advantage to the whole front coming up as opposed to just the shield? I'd think the 16 is a little more stable, but who knows?

These are some of the reasons I bought the flip-up versus a full face:

* for me, the whole front flips up, so very easy to put my glasses on, no glasses, no see, no stay on road
* when fueling up, very easy to pop the front up, put gas in, drop it back down, take off
* my wife and I will carry a couple of bottles of water or soft drinks in a collapsible cooler in the "trunk", pull over, grab bottle, flip up helmet, drink, save bottle, drop down front, take off
* we do not have a communication system yet, so at a light or stop sign, very easy to flip up the front, talk, then flip down and on our way
* I find all sorts of little moments popping up where having the ability to frlip the whole fron of the helmet up is more convenient then just the shield

Also, keep in mind that if you want, you can flip up just the shield as well and not the whole front end, the IS-Max, as other HJC's, also has the sun shield system which I like very much. Can drop the sun shield down and fits easily with my glasses on.

Personally, I like it very much and would buy a flip up over a full face again if the chance arose.

My wife has a Fulmer M1 flip up that has a nice pink and white pattern on it........if you are looking at patterns and such :D

Thank you for the reply...I have been using a full face shield and am used to it...I ordered the IS-16 Scratch as it has a nice yellow/black pattern that matches my bike...if the MAX had this option, I'd likely get that instead...these helmets are great as I won't need to wear sunglasses anymore when I wear my contacts...
