• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hitch questions

Does anybody have a trailer hitch that mounts to the frame instead of the swing arm. With the trailer directly connected to the swing arm any and all movement of the rear wheel is transferred straight into the trailer which raises hell with carbonated drinks in the cooler. I never had an issue with the wing or the FJR but the hitch mounts to the bike framework and the suspension smooths out the ride. If there is one out there I would like to see it and if not I'll have to strip all the plastic and get to fabricating.

HITCH AND TRAILER

.....In real life it doesn't actually work that way....You may be thinking that your rear wheel bounces up and down.......but it doesn't......Except in rare/freaky circumstances the rear wheel/tire stays planted on the ground. You and the passenger move up and down but not the rear tire........What ever is in the trailer is going to get " jostled " no matter what type of Hitch you have.....But this is due to the suspension........Mike

Fab away

I think you will have to fabricate your hitch. The frame is a long way away from where the hitch ball needs to be. Personally I think the stiffness of the springs on your trailer would shake your sodas more that the swing arm. With the hitch on the swing arm your trailer is in unison with rear wheel. On the frame your trailer will bounce with the shock/spring unit. If I am understanding your plite correctly I am not sure that the hitch on the swing arm is the point of the problem.

hitch

I see your point but I've had three Bushtec's on two other machines and never a problem. I don't think it's anything other that just the vibration and small movements that's causing the problem and it is transferred directly to the trailer tongue. I've played with air pressure in tires and suspension with out any improvement. I'm snowed in here in central Oregon and need something to do so I may go ahead and experiment.

There is a company across the pond that makes frame mounted hitches for the Spyders. Don't remember who they are, but have been on there site.

Or you could purchase your beverages and ice just before going to where you will be stopping for the night:thumbup::yes:

Hitch

Yuotube video showing frame mounted hitch. Near the middle of the video.

Hate to disagree with you, Mike, but the hitch does bounce, on rough pavement anyway which is not at all uncommon. I had both S hooks of my safety chains bounce out of the holder. That's why I switched to snap hooks. http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?75224-Thoughts-and-pointers-from-my-6900-mile-trip-loose-hitch-ball-amp-safety-chains&p=905855&viewfull=1#post905855. Bouncing also contributed to the tongue on my trailer developing a crack that encompassed 3/4 of the perimeter of the tongue tube.

If it is a GS or RS, Corbin had a frame mount hitch that worked with their bags.

Right you are. When we ride we are on top of the suspension so we feel very little of what the tires are doing. A good example is watching a motocross bike. The wheels are moving up and down up to a foot but the rider moves very little. It's true our tires don't leave the surface but they do move a lot and all the small movement goes into the trailer and it's contents. The contents of my trailer never moved around when towing with the wing but with the spyder I've had to make dividers to keep weight where it needs to be.
I may screw up my energy level and strip the plastic off and see what there is to work with but I'll call Bushtec first to see if they have anything in the works.
